I love vintage things–frequent auctions and yard sales looking for furniture than can be made new again and retain an old sense of charm. My fiance found me the most beautiful perfect ring, or maybe I should say he designed it. He couln’t find an old ring that he liked, so instead he had a beautiful ring designed in a vintage setting and the band decorated and everything. It was more perfect than I can imagine.
He surprised me with it. I moved to KY for a job and he moved in with his parents, telling me he wanted to finish the summer in Boston. I didn’t understand, but his real plan was he wanted to live rent free, bill free for the rest of the summer so he could save up for the ring. He showed up to KY earlier than I expected with this beautiful engagement ring–and that was it, he had picked up extra shifts and worked for 3 months just to save up for this ring and that day.
Well, I took the ring off and put it in the pocket of a dress I was wearing to apply sunless tanner. After deciding not to wear the dress I took it off through it in the closet and forgot about the ring, right up until the point we were about to walk out the door. My stomach dropped, I ran into the room, grabbed the dress–no ring. I searched the closet, my shoes all my clothes and eventually told him I couldn’t find it. Needless to say, we forfeited our plans for the evening and turned the room upside down instead.
Nothing yet. This happened Saturday–4 days ago. I’m looking every day, watching my dog’s bathroom trips closely–nothing. We hadn’t received the appraisal yet and thus didn’t have it insured.
I have no idea what to do. My fiance is being super understanding about the ordeal, but I know he is upset (not quite as upset as I am) and it’s put a damper on the whole wedding planning. I guess I know how much he sacrificed for that ring, and I wish I could have held onto it for longer than a month–any ideas, suggestions, help?

I’m sorry I have no suggestions all I can say is GOOD LUCK and I really really really hope you find the ring. However, if you don’t try not to beat yourself up about it and be grateful to your Fiance for being so understanding. I’m sending you all my lucky vibes for the week ~~~~~~~~~!

Just breathe and relax and take comfort in knowing that it couldn’t just disappear.
I think you are taking all of the right steps. Look in any vents that are in the area, in the corners of the closet. In the cuffs and packets of any clothing that were hanging near the dress.
You usually find things like that when you aren’t looking for them.

I bet it will turn up when you are not looking for it. It HAS to be in the house right? So it is probably in some “nook or crannie” or cuff of something. Don’t give up on it! Best Wishes.

Oh no! I’m so sorry this happened to you. I once threw my ring on the bed – the big, springy, king sized bed. Darling Husband nearly had a heart attack.
Have you considered finding a metal detector and going over your whole room?

AHHH! I’d be a mess. BUT I over do it in the worrying department. It HAS to be there. Where do you store your tanner? Maybe you set it there? Check the duct work? Any pants hanging there that could have caught it in a cuff or pocket? GOOD LUCK ..and WHEN you find it, post pictures!

Well the good news is that it has to be in your house, right? Buying a metal detector is actually a good idea. The $50 you’ll spend on that will be a thousand times worth it if (WHEN!) you find the ring with it. I agree to check in pant cuffs, vents, EVERYWHERE. Good luck and please keep us updated. I predict this story will have a happy ending!

Another place to check if you haven’t found it is in the liner of the dress! I know people who have had holes in pockets that items have fallen through, but it ended up in the liner! Hope you find it 🙂
