I was so afraid of this. I am getting married in playa Del Carmen Mexico (Paradisus la Esmeralda) in 17 days. When I first purchased my dress back in December, the owner told me a size 8 would be perfect even if I dropped the 15lbs I was planning on. She said my last fitting would be August 27th (wedding date September 24th). I told her that was too ahead from the date and wanted something closer. She said that wouldn’t be possible with all the dresses they need to alter. Well now I’m just about 20lbs down and I’m afraid my dress doesn’t hug my body the way I envisioned.
I pick up my dress steamed and ready to go on September 18th. I leave for Mexico on September 22nd.
I’m devastated and wondering if I should start looking up seamstress in Mexico. This is a destination wedding. Has this happened to anyone? If this helps, my dress is a Pronovias Mildred. Any suggestions are welcomed.

Can you find a seamstress where you are?

You have two more weeks before you pick up the dress. Schedule another fitting with the salon or take your dress to another seamstress.

she told me I don’t need another one and I quote “you’re not the only dress I’m working on”. I paid $2700 for everything!!! I hate this panic

she sounds rude and unprofessional! I would take the dress some where else! Unless you are fluent in Spanish, I would probably find someone to alter it here before you go. Good luck- so sorry this happened!

There’s plenty of time to alter before you go. Start calling around. Pick up your dress and head straight to the seamstress you decide on.

So sorry to hear this is happening. I would call her back and ask to pick up your dress immediately, even if that means it’s unfinished and find a new seamstress

I had this happen to me… sort of. I bought a size 10 and lost an unintented 15 pounds (I was a healthy weight before but got so stressed during planning that I couldn’t eat normally).
My seamstress scheduled an “emergency fitting” and charged me a $300 premium for her trouble, which involved disassembling and reassembling the bodice. I’m surprised that yours is unwilling to make an extra buck with a rush job.
I’d search for a local seamstress who is willing to take on a last-minute project for a higher rate per hour.

Get another seamstress. I lost 40 lbs and mine was able to alter my dress perfectly – she had to take 2 inches off of each side and deal with heavy beading in two fittings.

get your dress back ASAP and take it to a better business person.

Have a look for independent seamstresses and I’m sure they will help especially if they charge for a rush job

- Wedding: May 2017 - Ocean front
I say get it back to go to another place or start eating and gain the 5 lbs you didn’t mean to lose initially??
Just trying to think outside the box here PLUS I love food! LOL

love this!! That would be my answer too!
But seriously – your seamstress is a bitch. Get the dress back and find someone else who can get it done. You still have weeks to the wedding – that’s lots of time.

Firstly, I would look for another seamstress – there are a lot of local seamstresses who could sneak you in.
Secondly, I stayed at Paradisus la Esmeralda last November and it’s AMAZING!! You will absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!
Oh, and third…CONGRATS 🙂

To top it all off I already paid her for alterations which in all honesty all she did was do the bustle. I’m going to call and look around for seamstresses. I didn’t sleep last night thinking about this. Thank you for all your suggestions.
