- Wedding: September 2013
My fiance and I wanted nice pictures but we also didn’t have the 5k that comes along with a lot of photographers these days. So we checked out a lot of new to the area and up and coming photographers(because really..no matter your price point…we all deserve lovely pictures)
Here’s a list and short review of some of the photographers we’ve met or worked with as well as links to their facebook pages.
Randi Underwood Photography: This was the first photographer we met with. She’s fairly new to the Louisville area(husband is in the military)and has a very bubbly personality. Honestly she’s quite sweet and adorable really. What we wanted (at least 8 hours on our wedding day, an engagement session, and dvd’s with copyrights of our photos) totaled around $1700. Within our $2000 price range. As nice as she was we just didn’t click. I also didn’t like the work of her back up/second photographer. It was nice but it just didn’t move me. Randi’s works is also very traditional style photography and we wanted something a little different.
B.R.H Photography: We honestly probably would have went with this guy but he had our date booked. But he was very nice and funny. He offered a lot of great suggestions and gave us photographer recommendations since he would be unable to photograph our day. For our entire wedding day, an engagement session, and hi res dvd of pictures it would have been $1400.
Megan Hile Photography: This is our photographer. Her work isn’t the most fancy but it holds it’s own. Her site and facebook don’t do her work justice. It worried me at first because it shows very few weddings. But she showed us a lot of her work. She has a way of manipulating light to make everything very ethreal. We just clicked with her from the moment we met. She’s very laidback. Exceptionally friendly and willing to do anything from climbing into trees to get a great shot to rolling in the snow with you during your engagement sessions. She’s a very in the moment photographer and has a knack for capturing spectacular candids.
For 10 hours, an engagement session, a 5×7 coffee table book, and hi res dvds of our pics we are paying $1500.
Timothy Marsee Photography: We worked with him yesterday. He’s the husband of a friend from high school whom I recently reconnected with. We did a storyboard session and reenacted our first date. He definitely knows how to put his clients at ease(my Fiance HATES taking pictures) and is always up for a good laugh. That’s very important to us. We want someone who can laugh and have fun with us. What started out as a simple hour session quickly turned into about 3-4 hours despite the fact that it was 20 degrees outside. We actually never met with him for pictures because I didn’t know of his work until recently. But after looking through his prices he DEFINITELY falls into the category of beautiful photos at a reasonable price. For 8 hours, a 3 hour engagement session, and hi res dvds with printing rights you’ll spend about $1500.
I hope this helps some of you guys. When we first started this a lot of people made us feel awful. Either we weren’t spending enough money or we were spending too much money. No one should be made to feel like this. Pick a price range that works for you. You can still have great pictures and wonderful memories even if you don’t spend 5k+ on them. Do what you can afford/are willing to spend and don’t let anyone try to make you feel bad for your choice!
