I LOVE cobalt blue. So it is not a surprise that it is my main color of choice. In addition to Jasmine “starry sapphire” satin bridesmaids’ dresses, I will have alternating cake pedestals of cobalt blue glass.
This is my top tier pedestal, and the most exquisite of all. They ran me anywhere from $10 – $45 per pedestal and can easily be found for up to $120 a piece. Look for a deal at auction if you want to snag one for a good price. Here is a larger pedestal for one of the mid laters:
They coordinate nicely, and my fiance is building wood boxes of alternating heights for the pedestals to rest upon. Once covered with a white linen, the pedestals will sit on the boxes in a cascading stairstep pattern. The cakes are from my favorite bakery, http://www.classicsmithislandcakes.com, and will be adorned with green and white sugar orchids being made by my Matron of Honor. Yes, I have some talented friends.
Once I purchased the cake plates, the rest of the reception decor was set in motion….but I have a tight budget. Seriously $500 for decorations, including: centerpeices, flowers (includes ceremony flowers), favors and anything in between. $3,500 for reception and ceremony. Dress and accessory budget: $1,100. Think I can do it? I’m already doing it my friend, and doing it well 😉
My fiance is pestering me to come watch a movie but I look forward to making my next update and might start blogging even if only for my own nostalgia years to come 🙂

I saw these beautiful blue “vases” at IKEA the other day – maybe they would be of interest to you? The color on the website doesn’t do them justice, they’re much more like the color of your cake stand. :}

Thanks so much! I actually was planning to get those for centerpeices until I found these:
You’ll never guess…the Dollar Tree! You can order them plus a lot of other colors and styles from:
$1 a peice, no joke!
Although, the ones from IKEA are actually quality blue glass whereas the Dollar Tree are painted on the inside. You can’t tell unless you actually look down into the vase but certainly no where near the Ikea quality.
I’m glad you mentioned them though bc a friend of mine is heading to Ikea (3hr drive) and I would like her to pick me up one of those sets just in case.

Those cake stands are GEORGOUS.

@lonidixon: The vase in your pic is 11″ tall. Dollar Tree also has a Ginger Jar vase that is 8″ high.
You could pair those two vases and add a shorter candle.
Or, depending on the budget, use several blue vases with a single flower in each.

@candykristina: Thanks! They are made I think by a company caller Mosser (sp?) I got them in an online Auction. I think they come in other colors though.

@julies1949: Yeah I was considering getting both. I decided on just the ones I bought (same website) and votives. My colors for flowers are white and green, so I’m filling the vases with White Hydrangeas, White and green Alstromeria, and some Fuji Mums. I’m sprinking dried hops around the base with plain white votives. So excited to see the finished product! I gues I have to wait haha.
