I had maybe an extra 10lbs around the middle when I got pregnant. Now my belly is growing but I also have love handles, so I am feeling a bit insecure. I know I will never be a tiny girl with just a prefect round belly, but I am also a little surprised how my body is taking shape.
Here is my weird question:
As I get more pregnant, will my belly pull things forward so that I don’t have as much of a muffin top on the sides?
OR will my belly get so big in the front that you don’t really notice the side fat anymore?

My answer is that your belly will get so big that you will forget to look at the love handles! 🙂
No, to answer your question more seriously: I had a bit more around the middle before I got pregnant, as well. I don’t really notice it at all, although it’s probably still there. But that might be partially because I am only wearing full-panel maternity bottoms. I am too uncomfortable in the underbelly bottoms – and when I have tried them on, I’ve noticed that I do get some “muffin-top.”
Of course, this could also depend on how you’re carrying: high, low, more wide, etc.
I feel like I didn’t answer your question very well…but hopefully what I’ve written makes sense!

My love handles are a bit more now than they were but I do think the big belly balances them out. But I’ve got a rocketship belly, it’s not really evident from behind that I’m pregnant so I think the rocketship does pull everything forward, but not everyone carries the belly that way. And once the belly is big no ones noticing love handles, they just think it’s part of the growing belly or something.

@lilybay: Thanks! Right now I am growing…but I am not that big so I still just see the muffin top. I have hope that the belly with get so big that I won’t notice the extra on the sides 🙂
@troubled: I know! Instead of just growing out front….my love handles are growing too! I know this is a part of life/pregnancy, but it’s still hard to watch yourself get wider in places you don’t want. I think I need to stop comparing myself to the ladies who are skinny on the sides….some of us are going to grow all over. haha!

Thats actually a really good question lol. I didnt have much o begin with, but I can tell you that at 30 weeks, my belly didnt pull anything forward. It just kinda grew outwards. It will balance out though, dont worry. EVERYONE feels insecure during that weird phase. 🙂

Not a silly question at all – I’m wondering the same thing! I’m just over 15 weeks, and I feel like I don’t have much of a belly at all – but I’ve WIDENED so much! I have crazy love handles now and even back fat… oh well. I am hoping that I will eventually get a belly that will balance it out, but we’ll see. 😉 I’ve been studying pregnant women non-stop though, (lol,) and I’ve come to the conclusion that there are two types of pregnant women – those that just get cute bumps and those that are pregnant with their whole body. It looks like I’m definitely the ‘whole body’ type. Even my face is rounder!
So grateful for this experience though… and now that we’ve started sharing the news, it makes it easier, as I don’t wonder if people think I’m just packing on the pounds!

I think MrsMoose got it right– there are two main ways you can go, all over or just belly. According to the Old Wives, if you are just belly in the front you are having a boy and if you are all over, it’s a girl. In my extremely unscientific study of, oh, 4 women, this is true.
I also think a lot of it is genetic, so however your mom carried, you are likely to carry. I hope I will be just bump (when I do get pregnant, I’m not now!)– my sister you could barely tell she was pregnant from behind even at 9 months. But we have such different bodies regularly that I don’t hold much hope that it will be the same then.

@KWebs: Well I really want a girl! So if my love handles mean that it’s a girl….I’ll take the love handles!! haha!
I know that it’s not really scientific….but when we learn the gender next week, if it’s a girl, maybe I can just look at those love handles as the price I pay for a girl! hahaha!!!

not a silly question! i definitely had some extra around the midsection but now i feel like my tummy is growing out enough that my love handles are pulled tight and not as noticeable. granted, im having a boy so i might fall under what mrsmoose described.

@KWebs: I heard this too. My friend said that girls steal your pretty, and that’s why you grow all over. Sure enough I’m having a girl! I’m ok with giving her my pretty.

@artbee: “girls steal your pretty”… that is adorable!!
I didn’t find that my love handles changed at all…but they were very well hidden with full panel maternity pants 🙂

@KWebs:too funny- my grandma just told me the same thing. I am all belly and having a boy, so maybe the theory is true?
