I think this is VERY sweet, but are you sure you want to put this kind of pressure on yourself?  The day is already crazy enough, and to add a public performance for my groom would make me a stressed out basket case.  Would you reconsider maybe doing the song at the Rehearsal or during a first look or private moment after the ceremony?

@ms.amanda.hopkins:  Honestly, I wouldn’t put that sort of pressure on yourself. If you are desperate to do it, then I’d pre-record a song rather than relying on yourself to have the performance mentality on such a huge day particularly if you’re not an experienced performer.

Edited because I was writing your post while you said that you’re an experienced performer. I’d definitely have a professional accompanist if you have one amongst your friends or can afford to pay someone.

@ms.amanda.hopkins: I love your idea! I’m actually doing the same thing – except playing the piano and singing to him. Don’t let anyone’s feedback sway you. It’s your day, and you seem comfortable performing. My only suggestion is keep it real – if you get emotional, go with it! It doesn’t have to be the best performance of a lifetime. People are their to witness your love, not judge you American Idol style 🙂

That being said, haha, I came on here to get some ideas for songs myself, but I’ll suggest the ones I’ve passed on so far b/c they weren’t right for us.

I give you credit for having the guts to do this! Rock on and good luck!

I play guitar, and although I don’t have the prettiest voice, I’m going to play at my reception and sing! (I’m actually doing a few songs, but a couple of my bridesmaids also sing for me, so I’ll have them helping out on some songs). Anyway…what’s your style? I love to change up top-40 songs and make them acoustic and different. “Halo”
by Beyonce is really simple, 4 chords, and sounds great, for example. “I Will Follow You Into the Dark” is a great acoustic love song, and “Lovesong” by The Cure is also 4 chords, I think. I mean, I really don’t know what KIND of song you’re looking for. Personally, I’m doing an original and a couple of covers by myself, and then a couple more with my girls singing. I haven’t nailed down what songs I’m playing yet, though.

“When you say you love me” by Josh Groban is heavenly 🙂
