- Wedding: July 2012
So I have a technical backgound. When Fiance and I got engaged I left my job as a tech to move to where he lived and got a job as a paraprofessional at a middle school (I eventually hope to work myself into a tech position there).
This summer the opprtunity came to be a tech specialist at a phone company. It was just for the summer, but I took it because it meant a ton more money and something to do to keep my mind off of wedding planning. And it was tech work! Yay! What I was born and bred to do!
I thought I’d be taking phone calls and doing all this stuff because the supervisor of the dept. said they REALLY needed the help. Well, here I sit…On Bee Boards…doing SQUAT…for the last 3 weeks.
I shouldn’t be complaining that I get paid to do nothing, but I am the kind of person that needs satisfaction out of earning my money. They have no one to train me because they are all so busy. I was put with one of the workers, who never has anything for me. So I went to the supervisor and told her I have nothing to do. She just told me to watch him and learn. Well, if I would get hired I wouldn’t be doing his job, but if that’s what she wants I guess. So I watched. She bothers him every day about giving me something to do, but he always says he has nothing. And yet she never finds anything for me to do either.
Then last week she asked me to give her an e-mail about what I’ve been doing. I said, “Ive been watching” She is like, “Well, the CEO wants to make sure you’ve been impacting the company.” How in the HELL can I impact the company results if you never give me any thing to do and everyone is too busy talking phone calls to train me?
Bah. I will stick it out but I feel like a pile not being able to do anything. I think I would really love this job if someone could take the time to train me and give me something to do. I actually want to work, but sitting there for 9 hours a day watching someone type on a computer anbd make phone calls is not exactly going to keep me awake.
