I was eating low-carb for several months and noticed a change in my hair/nails. I’m wondering if anyone noticed anything similar (my nails were more brittle and my hair seemed to be falling out in greater quantities than normal).

You would definitely think that would be more associated with low protein intake. Hmm sorry I cannot be more helpful. Hopefully Ms. DG will moosey on over here.
Its common for very low carb eaters (think counting carbs-atkins as opposed to clean eating lower carb) to have thinning hair and fragile nails. Its usually because they are avoiding a lot of the fruits and veggies with vital nutrients.
I’m clean-eating low-carb – lots of veggies and some fruit with tons of lean protein – so it’s definitely not that. I was wondering if the lack of grains might be the cause…

I know that the combination of thinning hair and brittle nails mixed with other signs are symtoms of hypothyroidism…. but I doubt that is the case.

OR… you could just be dehydrated! My initial thought was possibly lack of calcium in your diet.
