Have you considered Puerto Vallarta? I know that some people are afraid to travel to Mexico because of everything going on, but Puerto Vallarta is considered to be safe.  It’s beautiful, relaxing and pretty inexensive.  My Fiance and I were really considering it, but our our honeymoon will fall during their hurricane season.

Make hotwire and priceline your friend and be flexible with your honeymoon dates.  I was able to secure the Westin on Hilton Head Island through Hotwire for $65 a night for the first week in June (I booked it back in January though.)  I looked at adding a night to our reservation yesterday and it was going to cost $255!  That’s almost double what I paid for two night.

I book hotels all the time through Priceline’s bid feature.  I am usually able to get a three or four star hotel for well under $100 a night.  This works best for big cities because you can narrow down what area of town you want to stay.  For a beach vacation you could book a beachfront in Daytona Beach pretty reasonably (make sure you select 4 stars or better to get the nicest room for your honeymoon.)

Don’t forget to check last minute deals on both sites as well.  You can get a good deal about 4-8 weeks before your planned honeymoon.

Groupon and Living Social are also nice just be careful to research the resort to make sure it’s not a timeshare.  I almost bought one until I realized it was a timeshare resort and one of the conditions for the deal was to attend a timeshare presentation.  No thanks!

***I’m a dork and just saw the out of the U.S. note.  Have you checked Panama or Costa Rica?  The Gamboa Spa & Resort in Panama was featured in the WSJ as the next big place to go.  It looks sexy to me.  http://www.gamboaresort.com/

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.  Or Costa Rica.  They are an excellent “bang” for your Caribbean/beach vacation buck.  =)  Beautiful, Relaxing, and you can seek out adventure as often or as little as you’d like!

I would definitely recommend Playa Mujeres in Mexico, the Excellence Playa Mujeres in particular.  It was an amazing honeymoon for us, great room and good food and super relaxing and worked with our really right budget! 🙂
