@anotherbee: I’m no expert, but I do know that low progesterone can cause a woman not to ovulate. Do you know why your cycles weren’t regular? Have you discussed this with your OBGYN? Hopefully, some Bees here can give you some good advice!

Since you’re on your second cycle of charting is this also your second cycle off of BC? I know that it can take awhile for your cycles to regulate.

As for your chart, I’d venture to say that maybe you O’d but maybe it was on the 26th? That would put you on day 13 of your LP right now which is a pretty normal length before AF shows up.

I have low progesterone because of PCOS and I usually have spotting before AF shows. Spotting could definitely be an indicator of low progesterone? Is the spotting pretty much constant or just off and on?

@anotherbee: Hi! Not everyone with low progesterone ovulates/doesn’t ovulate so it isn’t cut and dry.  I would ask your doctor for a hormone panel including progesterone, LH, estrogen, and thyroid. They will likely do a blood test around expected ovulation and later right before you expect your period.  The reason that I suggest a hormone panel is that your hormones are all very related. Dominance of estrogen will decrease or hamper production of estrogen, A slow thyroid will also hamper progesterone production so while low progesterone may be the reason for your spotting the real reason that your progesterone is low might be something else. The panel will also confirm if you are ovulating. Your dr will want to know about this when treating it.  Regulating your hormones with either supplements (B6, Evening Primrose, etc) may be what you need right now in the TTA stage. these things take time to get regulated and in line- its great that you are looking into this before you TTC.

Sorry for the book. I’ve been researching Low Progesterone (and low thyroid) since my hormone panel last cycle. PM me if you have any questions.

Sorry, I should have noticed that you are Cycle 2 off HBC- there would be no harm in getting a hormone panel done now especially because you said you had irregular periods prior to HBC.

@Running Elley: there is a hormone that they look for to confirm PCOS do you remember what that is?  We checked it last blood test and my ND said it confirmed that PCOS wasn’t the issue for me (I didn’t think it was- my symptoms don’t match) and i promtly forgot the name of the hormone. 😐

Why do you think you didn’t ovulate?  I think you probably did…although hard to say for sure.  It looks like your body was probably trying to ovulate the first 2 rises and then succeeded the third time?

I also like to post my chart in the TCOYF forums to get Qs answered.  Often they tell me about settings that affect the display that I had no idea about.

I don’t have anything new to say about the spotting except what everyone else said.
