LobstaGurl : I love the second dress. While the first dress is fine, and looks good on you, it’s like so many other dresses these days. If I saw it at a wedding I would instantly forget it.
In the second dress you look like someone who knows her own style and isn’t afraid to flaunt it. What is wrong with that? A wedding shoud represent who you are as a person, not the wedding industry’s or anyone else’s ideas. If that personal style is is a bit vintage, a bit conservative, so be it. It also looks like a higher quality dress as well.
For what it’s worse, I really can’t stand the word “matronly”. It seems to be used at anything that isn’t strapless, or that covers a particular area of the shoulder or the collarbone. Who knew that exposing a particular patch of upper body skin was the key to youthful appearance? Guess all those European princesses are matrons as well. Way to also make being old and married an insult.

Absolutley love the first one, you look stunning!

the BLHDN one is sooo sooo sooo much better IMO.

You have a wonderful figure so that’s gonna look good in anything! But I MUCH prefer the first one. The BHLDN one is very…BHLDN. It looks almost like a Victorian tea dress. It makes you look (please don’t take this wrong!) but kind of frumpy up top. The first one shows you off so perfectly. You own that first one.

I have no idea why so many people are saying they love the first one over the second. The first one is so pretty but honestly to me is, boring and predictable, but the second one is striking and beautiful and you are visibly happier in it. It flatters your figure beautifully and does not in any way look matronly to me- it’s figure hugging and, in its own way, sexy while being conservative in the areas you want to be conservative. Forget what people say or expect and go with what you love- don’t second guess your happiness in a dress even if it’s not for everyone!

I don’t fancy either one. The first one while looks pretty, makes you look rather uncomfortable and I understand how you feel about the low neckline etc. However the second one I have to admit looks really “nun” as well.
I think you can do better and find a nicer dress that is conservative but not that matronly. You can have long sleeves and still look lovely. I’d recommend a look at Hayley Paige’s designs as examples but she may not be in your budget – still, I think there are better dresses that fit your bill.

I actually really like the second one, which is surprising. Normally, I think I’d tend to favor the first dress, but I think the second dress looks beautiful on you! The most important thing is to wear something you love, whether that’s altering the first or going with the second.

2nd one all the way. It is super elegant and your figure looks great. Would look great with your hair up.

Did you decide?
FWIW, I love the second dress. It’s the Catherine Deane Bridgette, if I’m not mistaken? BHLDN stocked when it was first released and it is in the current CD collection still. I have always wanted to see it on a “real person” 😊 I think it looks gorgeous and on-trend with the lace.

I really love that second one but I would change the neckline and just make it a bit lower. Maybe a mosdest scoop-neck. The dress overall is gorgeous and fits you beautifully but that turtle neckline is not cute for a wedding dress at all. You don’t want to look old and frumpy on your wedding day. You also have a beautiful figure! You should show off your youth just a teeny bit more.

Heheh, everyone has totally different tastes. I love the second one. I think you’re totally rocking the high neckline, and it’s more unique and interesting.

Echoing PPs – please come back and tell us what you picked! I prefer the BHLDN one over the DB one – it’s not at all matronly, it hugs your curves beautifully. If anything I don’t love the color of it but that could just be the photos. Did you go with one or the other or did you keep looking?

Choose the one that you feel most comfortable and most like a bride. You look equally happy and beautiful in both. Maybe keep them both and have a second dress. They are completely different for sure. I say think about what your wedding style will be like. The first dress reminds me of a whimsical fairy tale type of wedding and the other reminds me of traditional vintage type of wedding. Hope I helped.

I tried on the first one at David’s as well! It looks so beautiful in person and the dual colored train ripples beautifully when you move. It was very romantic and comfortable, I loved having it on but I found I didn’t love it as much in photos. Between the two, the first is much nicer though. I heard that the alterations for that David’s dress is expensive because of all the layers though.
