Has anyone tried on or purchased Maggie Sottero’s Gatsby dress? I am dying to try this one but I have yet to actually find a salon that actually carries a sample. There are lots of bridal shops that carry Maggie Sottero, but non of them have the samples that I want to try on! I had 2 bridal appointments this weekend and both salons carried designers that I was interested in, but NONE of the actual designs I liked. They all seemed to be variations of the same dress (heavy satin, a line or ball gown with asymmetrical beading). None of them had vintage-style lace samples. I am dying to try on Gatsby but I don’t know where to go!
After trying on a number of dresses this weekend (Gatsby NOT included) I am almost positive that this is going to be my dress….but there’s no way I can order a dress that I haven’t actually tried on!!
Has anyone ordered their dress without seeing it in person first? Was it ok, or a mistake?

I wouldn’t buy a dress I haven’t seen in person. Can either of the salons borrow it from the designer or another store so you can see it? Some stores do that.

I bought my dress without trying it on. If its what you really want go for it. Try to find the same shape of the dress. In the end they are just variations of each other.

I bought the Gatsby! I had the same problem with you – saw it online, fell in love with it…and then realised that no one had it in stock!!! You can get your local bridal store to phone Maggie Sottero and they can send a sample dress to the store (it cost me £60 for the postage), it was far too small for me to try on but at least I got to see it….I then phoned Maggie Sottero myself and they have a list of everywhere that has a particular dress and what size so I was able to find the dress and I travelled 4 hours to try it on – it was better than I thought it would be!!!
What dress size are you and what bosy shape?
I did loads of research and found loads of photos of real brides in it so if you want to message me with your email address i’ll email them across to you!x

I think the Gatsby is beautiful. I tried it on and thought it was flattering, but it doesn’t go with my venue.
Also, I tried it on in the champagne/gold color. I believe that is also the color on the model. I felt like in all-white it would lose a lot of the detail- at least in pictures.
This is a fairly popular dress, you should be able to find lots of pictures of real brides wearing it online.

My original dress post was word nearly exactly the same as yours. I saw this online and thought it was the one! I was frantically calling every shop in the area to find it.
I tried on this dress, bought this dress, and ended up going with a different one. You can search on here for the threads, there are a bunch of us that have pics. It is the champagne and gold that’s on the website, and I tried it on in Ivory with pewter. It is a very pretty dress, but don’t be fooled by the “a-line”. It is a sheath dress, and when I tried to put a petticoat underneath it looked ridiculous. It is very gorgeous, but the drop waist is very low and won’t work on a shorter girl. I felt like it actually looked more like an evening dress than a wedding dress which is why I ended up buying a different one.
Here I am in the ivory:
