Hi, I recently purchased a Maggie Sottero dress – the Fiorella in white! I absolutely love it. I’m not very tall (between 5’5″ and 5’6″), so the dress shop told me I would save a lot of money in alterations if I got it in the shorter length. So, I did.
Now, I’m a little confused. I’m wondering if anyone can tell me how much of a heel I’ll be able to wear under the dress. I want to look at shoes, but it is kind of hard when I don’t know if I’ll be able wear a 1 inch or 3 inch heel. I’ve read some people say you can be up to 5’8″ with shoes and still fit in the shorter length. I really hope so because I’d really like to have a little extra height.

I don’t know about the shorter length, but to give you a little perspective, I’m 5’11” and was able to go with the regular length instead of the tall length and am wearing a 2″ heel. Do they have any samples of the short length in store for you to try on for an idea?

Dresses are made for girls who are 5’9. The Maggie Petite cut is three inches shorter. I would wait until the dress comes in and then go to the store and ‘play’ with heel heights until you know exactly what shoe to buy to avoid paying for a hem.

I wore a Maggie Sottero Colby, Size 4 Petite. I’m 5’3″ and wore 5″ platform wedge heels. The hem did not need to be altered at all.

Based on my experience, I’d guess that at 5’5″ tall, you’d be able to wear 3″ heels. Of course, the best thing to do is to wait until you have the dress and try on different heel heights.

I’m 5’4″ and took a chance on the “petite” 3″ shorter. My heels are about 3 1/2″ so I hope they work! Worst case I have to get shoes with a shorter heel. But no hemline alterations!

@monkeyprincess we have a lot in common! I am 5’5″ and I also bought a Maggie Sottero dress back in December I have not gotten to see the dress since I purchased it but I was told the same thing; buy a petite size dress and I will avoid any (or most) alterations AND I could still wear a 2-3″ heel. My finace is 6’1″ so I DO need heels so I was pretty happy I could still wear them! I purchased 3″ heels the other day but am keeping the receipt just in case when I try on the dress in May I decide that I don’t like them or they’re too short/tall. When in doubt, if you fall in love with some shoes just keep the receipt and you can always exchange/return!

Im not sure about the petite size but I ordered the “regular” length and I am 5’7. I wore 3″ heels and did not need to get the dress hemmed at all, it was the perfect length.

I would go with the short length. I’m 5’4″ and have the regular length. I tried it on with 2.5″ heels and it was still long. I think even with 3.5″ heels, I’m going to need to have it altered. Wait til you get the dress to find shoes, but I think you’ll probably still be good with 2-3″ heels.

I am 5’5″ and just ordered a Maggie Sottero in petite length. I originally ordered the regular length, but one of my friends (who is the same height as me) told me she had petite for her Maggie, and it just hit the ground, which means NO alterations 🙂 But she also wore flats…. which is what I plan to do as well b/c I do not walk very well in heels and the last thing I want is to fall on my wedding day 🙂

Hi ladies I have read through your posts I am 5ft 5 and want to wear 1 inch platforms plus a 4inch heel I think I need to order the regular length do you agree? I don’t want to have any alterations tho.

How different the length is seems to depend on the dress. I was told by my bridal salon that I shouldn’t need any alterations after getting a petite – I am 4″11 and am wearing 4 inch heels. You should wait to get your shoes after your dress comes in, but if you want something that high then I do recommend the regular length. It will be hard to know if you will need alterations though, and most girls do.

I was never given the option of length, unless she did that on her own? She did measure me ALL over! hehe

When she measured you she might have already known that petite wouldn’t be a good option? It also wouldn’t surprise me if a bridal salon left out that info because it will make them more $$$ in alteration costs

The regular length was ordered for me. I’m 5’6 and told them I’d be wearing 3 inch heels. Let’s see how it turns out!
