If anyone has tried on or purchased this gown can you please tell me how the sizing runs? I can only purchase it online since it has been discontinued so I want to make sure to get it right the first time with very few alterations. My biggest part of my body is my stomach as I am apple shaped and I usually wear a street size 14.

I didn’t wear the Phyllis, but I had a Maggie dress (Patience Marie). I’m very petite. My consultant measured me at a size 0 based on the Maggie size chart. She ordered a 0 because based on the measurements there would still be a little extra room for me. When my dress came in, it wouldn’t even zip halfway up my back. She ended up reordering it in a 4 and it fit like a glove other than needing a little extra padding in the bust. Based on my experience, I would size up.

mrsclaymls : It was too small in the waist for you originally?

My dress was Maggie Sottero Farah. I’m a street size 16 and my measurements closely matched the 16… so I ordered a 16 and it fit perfectly!
Edited to say, I measured myself and referred to the chart myself. I don’t trust the shop ladies for a minute, just my 2 cents.

I am a size 2 in street clothes. I measured between a Maggie size 8 and 10 based on my hip measurement, a 4 in the waist, and a 6 in the bust.

FutureMrsA2020 : It wasn’t so much too small in the waist, but I couldn’t zip it over my ribs.

spilledmilk : Yes, I know the salons always want to order a dress so big and then charge a billion for alterations.
Did you order it based on your natural waist size?

You shouldn’t be ordering based on your street clothes dress size or just off of the measurement of one part of your body. Sizing isn’t universal (what might be a 14 at one designer might be a 12 at another and a 16 at yet another) so you need to go off the actual measurements and you need to order the size based on your largest measurement according to the Maggie Sottero size charts.
So if you measure at the equivalent inches for a size 14 for the bust, a size 12 for the waist, and size 16 for hips, you order the size 16. It’s easier to take in than to let out usually.

I also wore a Maggie— the Evelyn, which has been discontinued as well. I measured exactly a size 10, and I ordered a 10 and it fit beautifully. Just needed a little bit of alteration in the bodice. My recommendation is to go off of their sizing chart. You can find it online.

Update: It looks like based on my measurements I’m between 16-18 according to the MS size chart.

Then I would order the 18 as I had the Harper and the dress had no room in the seams to let it out so u may not have anything to let out. Like others have said order for your largest measurement even if it varies a lot and then take it in where it needs it.

wedding2018 : Is it common with wedding dresses to not have enough fabric to let out at the seams?

It depends on the dress I know they checked with mine to see as I wanted to see if I could order down a size and let it out a little and there was no room to let it out so that is something to consider when deciding what size to order. I ended up having the top taken in 2 sizes from the bottom due to my hips but glad I did as the end fit was great.

wedding2018 : Ok, good to know and a good question to ask when I go to try on Maggie Sottero dresses this Saturday.
