wendyc80 :  I had to buy mine off the peg because it was discontinued. I don’t know if anything else I tried on was a Maggie, wasn’t really paying attention to brands, so dont know if it was an anomaly but the one I got seemed a lot bigger than the size it was meant to be. It’s at the cleaners now and can’t remember exact size but it was either a UK 12 or 14 (US 8 or 10) which is roughly what I am just now and there were a good couple of inches extra room in it.

When I bought my Maggie dress I pretty much always wore a street size 10 and that was the bridal size my measurements fit in with as well. By the time the dress came I had put on some weight and was more of a size 12. It was a corset back, and my seamstress let out the hips (fit and flare style) a few inches and it was fine, no issues. I feel like the general rule of thumb I hear is that a dress can be altered up or down by about two sizes, and the corset back can give you a little extra wiggle room.

I would say it’s possible to make the 14 fit you, but I’m defintely not an alterations expert so I can’t swear to it.

wendyc80 :  Maggie’s sizing is a little questionable. I am a street size 0/2 and my dress is a size 6 (tiny at the top but my hips have some va-va-voom). Because Victoriana is not a lace gown you may have some wiggle room but I would get measured by a salon that sells Maggie and see what size they say you are.

I don’t know if this is the case with all Maggie dresses, but I had to go up a couple of sizes. I’m a street size 4 or 6, and my Maggie Sottero is an 8 and it fits like a glove. If I gained 5 pounds, it would look too small on me.

I’d go to a store that sells Maggie Sottero and have them measure you. They should be able to recommend a size for you. 🙂

When I was measured for a Maggie on Tuesday they used the Maggie-specific sizing chart – I ordered one size down as I was between sizes in both hip and bust measurements. The corset definitely gives you more wiggle room. I asked how much weight I needed to lose to fit into the next size down from what I ordered – they actually showed me the difference in INCHES between sizes, which was a real eye-opener, especially in larger sizes.

Hi girls! My 2 cents… I bought a Maggie Sottero corset back dress in a size 16. I have an enormous bust that measures at 44.5 inches but the Maggie size chart says a size 16 is a 43 inch bust, I probably should have gotten an 18 but it was such a fabulous price on eBay! I generally wear a street size 12 (jeans) or 14 (dress bc of chest). I just tried my dress the other day, the bust has ZERO wiggle room but you can see there is a ton of extra fabric in waist/hips. So I would say you could go 1 size down and have some wiggle room.

gatsbybride2016 :  I am also a street size 0/2 and my dress was also a 6. Glad to know I wasn’t the only one!

P.S. just an fyi I lost about 40 lbs to get into the dress, I went down about an inch in the bust for each 10 lbs I lost, I know everyone loses weight differently  so can’t say it’d be the same for you, but thought that might give you some insight on how it worked out for me. I have my first alterations appt end of next week! Hoping to still lose 10 lbs before our wedding in 6 weeks haha 🙂

I bought a Maggie dress last year and I found it to be pretty true to size. Im normally a 0/2. When they took my measurments I came in between a 2 and a 4. Mine had a corset back, so I went with a 2 and I could have probably easily gone with a 0. If you end up a size down and the dress has a corset back, it should work.

Maggie has her own specific measurements.  Usually she is one size higher than street clothes. For example,  I’m  size 6 street,  but bought size 8 dress and had it taken down in the bust and waist (but fit perfect in the hips)

I’m size 0/2 and my Maggie was size 0, corset back dress. It was true to size for me.

Carrera :  Glad to hear! I am a street size 0 and they ordered me a 0 and I have been a little worried since most of the time it seems that bridal gowns aren’t true to size…they said with my measurements it would be ok! Trying it on on Saturday, fingers crossed! No corset with mine.
