So Fiance and I were watching TV last night and a commercial for that movie Magic Mike came on, and I told him I was planning on going to see it with a few friends, and he made an interesting point: he said “not that I care, but if there was a movie like that full of female strippers I really don’t think you’d be cool with me and all my guy friends going to see it!”
I kinda thought about it, and he’s right! I never even thought of it before, but I don’t think I’d be happy to hear he was going to see a movie full of naked women. But it never even OCCURED to me that my going to see that movie could ever bother him. (For the record he told me of course I should go, he just wanted to point this out)
So what do you think, bees? Do we ladies sometime shave a double-standard about this (untintentionally or not)?

Nope I wouldn’t care
Also, I’ve been openly drooling during the Magic Mike commercials for the last two weeks haha

It’s a movie, you’re not going to a strip club.

I don’t care what movie my Darling Husband sees. I just heard about Magic Mike, maybe I’ll see it, maybe I won’t, but my Darling Husband is not going to be telling me one way or another.

I wouldn’t care at all. It’s a movie, not real life.
And I have as well been drooling over the trailer to that movie everytime if comes on. That Channing Tatum is one amazingly sexy man!

@sarahbabs: I think my Darling Husband is starting to get annoyed. We watch everything on our DVR and fast forward through the commercials. If I spot the trailer I make him rewind so I can watch.

ha, ok for the record he wasn’t saying not to go, or anything like that…he just thought it was interesting that a movie full of naked women would probably make me feel weird, but it never occured to methat it might make him feel weird for me to go to one.

Oh come on, we have places like HOOTERS that cater to men all over the place.
A movie like Magie Mike is harmless.

I wouldn’t care, Fiance watches way more rique business for free online whenever he wants, I’m sure.
Plus, I’m so going to see this movie hahaha.

Ooh Magic Mike…I can’t wait to see it! lol
Nope I don’t think I would care, it’s just a movie 🙂

Well actually, I don’t really care if he goes to strip clubs in real life (probably helps that he rarely goes and that I’ve gone with him before)…so for me, the movie example wouldn’t be a double standard for us. But I definitely think it would be for some couples.

hahaha, i guess your Fiance may have a point, but i also kinda feel like every mainstream “guy” movie is just as, if not more, gratuitous. the feminist in me sees “magic mike” as a chance to level the play field in terms of explotation.
the woman in me sees “magic mike” as a chance to stare at channing tatum for 2 hours.

We definitely have a double standard, I think because it’s not as common for there to be things like that catered towards women. However I DO think when that stuff is geared towards women it’s typically less skeezy. For example, I went to Thunder Down Under in Vegas for a friend’s bachelorette party and it was really cheezy, all really actor-y. If you go to a strip club for men in Vegas though, I think it’s much less of a “show” and more sexual. Of course I can’t speak from first hand experience, but that same friend’s fiance had his bachelor party at the same time so Fiance went with the boys, and that’s what he told me.
That said, none of the guys in Magic Mike are my type so it just looks gross to me! :/
