This poll is just for fun…yesterday DH and I went to a good friends house who had a box of magnum condoms on display on his counter. I thought maybe he’d just forgotten they were there, but then he moved the box aside to put something down. I had to giggle becasue…well…let’s just say conversations he’s had with me in the past about his Girlfriend and just random drunk fraternity guy talk/joking may have hinted towards the fact that this person doesn’t need them. I had to laugh a little bit, they were so obviously out for others to see. I just wonder: is this a sense of pride thing? Do guys who don’t need magnums still buy them?
Putting up a poll for anonymity sake. You don’t have to answer for your SO, Fiance, or DH specifically, but other guys you may have been with or been friends with too. Just for fun!

Does ANYONE really need them? I mean, there are videos on YouTube showing how far those things can stretch! I would think it’s more of a pride thing than actually needing a larger condom. VANITY SIZING for men!

This is funny. I think it is a pride thing. Like me, If I’m a size 0 in a certain brand, but in another size 4, I’m going with the 0. teehee, little tricks

I think very few people actually need them. And having a guy using a too large or small condom can cause breakage and put you at risk for STDs or pregnancy.

I’ll own up. I was getting a towel out of my then boyfriend’s bathroom cabinet and saw a little golden box in the back of the shelf. I giggled. And, yeah, I wondered if he actually needed them or if it was a pride thing. Yes, some men need them.

Well two guys in my past come to mind. One bought them not necessarily because he needed them but because he said they were more comfortable. Ok fine, I’l give him that. It didn’t bother me because he never claimed to truly need them.
The other guy, when I first saw the magnum condom at his apartment I sort of rolled my eyes to myself and said yeah right. Boy did he prove me wrong. He most DEFINITELY needed them. I would venture to say that he could have probably gotten a regular one on, but it would have cut off circulation.
I just hope guys know that it makes them look like idiots of they clearly don’t need them but buy them anyways.

My DH buys magnums and needs them. Anything smaller breaks almost every time and he says they are too tight. I definitely believe him I’ve been around the block and he’s got quite a lot going on down there compared to past boyfriends and flings

My ex boyfriend NEEDED them. He was like “Ron Jeremy Hung.” Like sex once a week because I’d my lady bits would tear every time HUGE. (sorry, probably Too Much Information.) But other than that, I think Magnums are an ego thing. I’ve seen a sex ed teacher put a condom on her hand and up to her elbow before. Those things are strechy!

Great thread!
Yes some men do need them! When DH and I were first dating and using condoms, if he used a regular one he felt the need to hold on to the end of it. (like it was going to slide up and no longer be effective) So he always found magnums to be more comfortable.
However my friend used to be a sex educator for planned parenthood and I saw her put a regular condom OVER HER HEAD. (Yes. Her head). I saw a few break that way but for the most part they held strong.

Mine needs them!!!! Some really do, but I bet 90% of sales are a vanity thing! 🙂 They might stretch really far just vertically, but when they stretch all around too, it’s a much more reasonable size. Smaller ones just don’t work….think a ponytail holder that just keeps squeezing and squeezing until all circulation is almost cut off and your hand turns blue.

@piglover: Oh my goodness, I have a sudden unnatural urge to see if I can do that.

I hate condoms. The latex irritates me and is just nasty. I really wish magnum sized condoms were sold non latex material.

That pretty funny. If I were in that situation I wouldn’t let a guy who didn’t need it use with me as it wouldn’t be an effective form of birth control which kind of defeats the purpose
