I am getting married next month and need to apply for my marriage lisence ASAP in New York City.
I dont have a middle name and am using my maiden name as my middle name. Does anyone know at what point I need to indicate my ‘new’ middle name. Should I put it as my current middle name in the online application or do I need to wait until we are married. There is an option asking you if you are having a new surname, but nothing on whether you are having a new middle name. If I put First Name _ Maiden _ Maiden as my current name will the ID still work. This is so confusing and I dont want to skip it if it means I will later need a court process.
Any help would be appreciated.

You’re not able to use your maiden name as your middle name when getting your license in NYC- you’d have to do that through the courts. I just got my license last week and asked like 10 different people hoping to get a different answer…

I wanted to do this and gave up on the idea when I found out I’d have to pay $210 to petition the court. Good luck!

Yak : Oh man that sucks… No wonder so many married women I know never changed their name, it’s all or nothing here. Let’s see what happens!

I guess changing your name from Jane Xxx to Jane Xxx Yyy where Xxx is now you middle name would take a court process, because you’re not changing just your last name.
I would just use it anyway – that’s what I’ve done with my maiden name. Over the years of signing documents it’s become semi-official. Half the time I’m Jane Xxx yyy and half the time I’m Jane Yyy. No one seems to notice or care. As long as your drivers licence and passport are the same, it’s fine.
