I am considering this apparently popular practice of changing my middle name to my maiden name, and taking my future hubby’s last night as my last night. I have a child from a previous relationship who does have my (maiden) name.
For those who have done this, how do you sign your name etc? Obviously I am wanting to keep my maiden name to make it clear that I am his mother, etc etc (how many times can I use etc in one post??). I am thinking I would use it on all legal documents, school paperwork as K*** Maiden Married but sign it as K*** Married. Is that pretty typical?

I think you can sign it however you’d like. I am doing this, mostly because I never had a middle name anyway, and I am fairly attached to my maiden name. For the most part, I will be using my married name, and treating my maiden name as if it was just a middle name.

my mother did this and when she signs her name she does evelyn M. last name
she only uses the initial…i considered this bc i thought this is just what people do. but i never really liked my last name so im just dropping it using my fiances last name.

I did this. I just sign firstname lastname, but when I went to change my drivers license, they included my maiden name on there (instead of just the initial), so that confused me for a while! I think you can sign whatever way you want. Signing the school papers with your maiden sounds like a good idea.

My mother was in a position similiar to yours. Her maiden name is my last name. Growing up, she signed First Maiden NewLastname on my papers but addressed herself as Mrs. NewLastname when speaking. It rarely caused confusion.
