I would love some advice from the Bee board! Our invitations were purchased in India and come in sort of a box-style envelope (the envelope itself looks like a rectangular envelope, but with depth). The approximate dimensions are 5.5” x 10.5” x 0.25”.
I have spent HOURS trying to figure out how to mail this thing. I’d like to have some sort of outer covering to the envelope, since it has some pretty graphics, etc. Unfortunately, the size is not standard, and will not fit any boxes or envelopes commonly available.
I’ve looked into custom poly envelopes, bubble mailers, boxes and poly envelopes. Would it look very bad to just stick them in a bubble mailer or poly envelope? Another option is to create an envelope template and make our own using cardstock or paperboard. I’m at my wit’s end…please advise!!!

Can you just wrap it like a present in craft paper (or some other heavy paper)?

I also want to know how to DIY shrink wrap! Anyone? Theoretically you just need the wrap and a heat source, but I have googled and not had success figuring out what I need and where to buy it.

Try going to an Art Store and ask for advice. I found this:

you can buy the shrink wrap systems from papermart.com or uline.com. they come with the sealer, the bags (more than you’ll ever need), and the heat gun. the cheapest is i believe around $180. goodluck!

I would definitely just wrap them in paper. Shrink wrap seems a little commercial and a big investment. To pretty up the paper you could always get custom stamps or stamp a pretty design on the paper.
