I finally picked up my dress yesterday and I’m not sure I can feel worse about it. I know I’m a big woman – 5’8 and a street size 16-18. I feel like my dress makes me look like a whale. I’m 53 and this not my first wedding (although it truly feels like my first real marriage). I didn’t want anything to “bride-y” and saw this dress on the typical size 0 teen model online on Alfred Angelo. I only tried on 2 other dresses so I probably screwed up there. Here’s what I look like in it compared to the orginal model picture:

Oh stop it, that dress is beautiful! If you’re feeling insecure, what about a belt/sash at the waist to pull it all in?

Dress gorgeous….you’re gorgeous…..change the shoes!!

Ah @pengoalo – you beat me too it. I think the dress looks fine on you but I do agree you need a belt or sash to give you more definition. I think this will give you a nice hourglass figure.

I love that dress! I think it nails what you’re looking for! I also agree that a sash would look fab on that dres, maybe just what it needs 🙂

it’s absolutely gorgeous, put on veil, the hair up, some sparkly jewellry, cute shoes and you’re all set and a sassy pose with one foot out; it’s all about confidence, you look beautiful!

I love that dress! It so beautiful – and so are you! You look very happy in that picture. Buy and wear the dress if you’re in love with it!!

I think the. dress is what you were looking for- not overly bridal. It’s a very nice dress and I would wear it proudly. A nice sash might spruce it up.
Don’t worry too much, you look good 🙂

If ” I’m not sure I can feel worse about it” is a true statement of how you feel, I would try to find something new fast. You want to feel beautiful and confident on your wedding day and if that isnt possible in this dress, I say find something that does. I had my own “dress regret” and it nagged and nagged at me until I rectified the situation.
Alternately, photograph yourself with your hair up, a big tropical flower in it, add a sash to accent your waist, and ditch those flip flops. You may feel better about it when you are all jazzed up.
Wishing you the best.

I think it looks great, to be honest. It really flatters you! Rock it!

@lorie: As a UK size 18 and 5’3 I shall start by paraphrasing ‘Here’s what I look like in it compared to the orginal’. WHAT?! Who at our age/height/weight/body shape would want to compare to the model wearing your dress? Don’t beat yourself up comparing these.
You know in your heart if your happy and how you want the whole ‘look’ to come together and we can only help so much. When I found myself in dress regret I looked at the other dresses I’d tried and found flaws in them which in turn made me more confident in my decision.
Best of luck.

First, you do not look like a whale. This dress actually flatters you very well. However, the style is not my taste. If you truly think I’m not sure I can feel worse about it then please get something else. There’s no reason to feel awful in what you’re wearing on your wedding day. You know how you feel in it and no amount of “you look great!” can change that. You need to be comfortable with yourself in the dress.
If you do wear it I vote for different shoes.

Honestly you put some great shoes with it and something blingy and it will be perfect. I think it looks great on you!

Like PPs have said, a sash, some amazing shoes, and proper accessories can make this a homerun! Don’t make up your mind before dressing it up a little and reconsidering. I think it could look really great with a sash, accessories, and a confident strut 😉
