I am having a major dilemma over my wedding reception. The venue I love is in my home town but it is 4-6 hour drive from where myself and 80-90 percent of my guests live. Some elderly family members may not be keen to make the trip.
There are venues in my current city that would be a lot closer for friends and familyto come to but I would probably have to marry on a Friday to get a date within the next year. About 50 per cent of people would then have to travel, but more a distance of 2 hours.
What should I pick??? I want to have a decent number of people there -Are people more likely to travel or come on a Friday?

It may be harder for people to travel anywhere (even if it’s only 2 hours) on a Friday night. If most of your guests work a traditional workweek, it’s a lot easier to do a drive (even if it means it’s a longer drive) on a Saturday.
If you really love the place in your hometown, and it’s something you’ve pictured being a part of your day, then don’t let go of that unless you’re really comfortable with it. The people that care about you will do whatever they can to make it regardless of where you have it.
If it was me, I would probably try to find a venue that is available on a Saturday in your current city. I just booked my venue about 5 months out from our wedding date (which is in peak wedding season in our area), and we still had 5-10 choices of the 30 or so places we contacted. So you never know!

@futurejhart: How many people do you have? Have you checked out 2941? I had my wedding there and it’s gorgeous. It’s in Falls Chruch and maybe more convenient for your guests.
