I have had one of the hardest days in my life. I had to sit idly by while my mother & aunt got torn apart by aunt #2 and uncle (their siblings) for something that isn’t their fault. It was mean and nasty and horrible. While we were never a “close” family, we are now totally fractured. This is one I know will never heal.
The positive of this is, my Gramma is moving from my mother’s home (about an hour away) to long term care in my town. I will see her much more. I will see my mom more and when the dust settles, I know my Mom made the right decision.
But I watched (from afar) Aunt #2 and Uncle tear into mom and aunt #1 like a pack of wild wolves. Things should never have been said. It went way too far.
I am now the rock for Aunt #1 and my Mom.
I am really hoping that planning the wedding will be a bright spot for them, something happy to focus on. And when I sent out save the dates I magically lost a few to Aunt #2 and Uncle’s family. I never got along with them, but was considering sending the invite, to be polite. But I just could not put pen to paper and do it. Now I am so glad. A new family is forming… strong and loving and supportive…
So please… find something silly… anything… I need to smile.. So I can be that rock they both need.

- Wedding: February 2013 - Mansion House at the MD Zoo
I am so sorry this happened. My mother’s family is divided into factions (literally, there are two sides) and it’s so so stressful. My cousins and I have tried so hard to stay out of it and leave the drama to our parents, but sometimes we get dragged into it too. It’s so difficult to try to mediate or have to listen to drama between the people who are supposed to be mature guides for you.
Anyway, here’s my upside-down, sleepy, flirty girl when she was a puppy.

My fiancee’s mother lives in a valley and you have to drive through mountains. There is a gap between the mountain peaks that is very steep and dangerous to drive through; there are often moose in the road. The first time he took me to meet his mother he said to me “when we get to the gap I will show you a moose, just remind me to look for one.” I replied “Oh my gosh, we are going to the Gap, I love shopping! Is it close to your mother’s house?!” It didn’t take me long to figure out that we were not going shopping.
Even though today is hard, remember that you have someone who loves you! And you are getting married! That is so exciting! And you didn’t say anything stupid today 🙂

Ahhh thank you.. I feel better.
orangefairy when I was with my ex.. his dad would bring over random items to give to us.. sports shirts, hats, socks, razors, etc…When I asked where they were from he would always tell me “it fell of the back of a truck”. So one day I asked my ex where the hell his dad was driving and why stuff always fell of the truck in front of him. In all the driving I had done, that never happened to me!!!! My ex had to explain to me that “it fell of the back of a truck” meant that it was stolen at some point. Probably taken home from a factory by employees.

I’m sorry you had a rough day. Focus on the people that love you and the fact that you are getting married to the man you love!
I posted this a couple of weeks ago and it got a lot of laughs. It’s a little long, but really funny:
