So, Fiance and I are getting married in late Sept./early Oct. This is an elopement, so it’s just us, the officiant, and hopefully a beautiful spot on the San Diego coast. At first I wanted something simple and informal to wear, but soon upgraded to a desire for a long dress (no train, just floor/ankle-length. I don’t want to spend over $700 or so. The picture below is basically the silhouette I want (it’s a Martin McCrea). I went to a well-regarded bridal consignment store here in Connecticut today and not one of their dresses had any sleeves, so I tried on about half a dozen strapless or sleeveless gowns that were in my price range but would require extensive shortening (I’m 5′ 1″) and other alterations. I’m starting to think that for what I want I will need to have it custom-made, because it is not easily findable, in which case I would turn to an overseas vendor like Fabulous U. The second picture with the tan sash was FI’s favorite from today’s shopping, and I’m considering it.
So, do I buy something now and try to make it work, even though it’s much different than my original vision, or take my chances with a mail-order dress?
