Hi Bees, just sharing a funny story.
I had my make-up trial today and she definitely did not understand what I wanted. I showed her pictures from Pinterest and described it as minimal, light make-up with help with the eyes and false lashes since I don’t have much. She started with a liquid foundation which I don’t wear myself. Her eye make up took most of the hour. She put cover up under my eyes and it started stinging. She said we’ll take it off at the end. When I turned around I nearly laughed. Honestly, I looked like I was wearing geisha make-up. It was so thick. My eyes looked smaller than they are due to the black eye liner. It was a trip and my sister and I are laughing at how it was the complete opposite of what I wanted. I think I’m going to do my own make-up now.

I had a similar thing with a hairdresser. She took an iron to my natural curls and gave me a beehive. I didn’t take it quite as well as you. But I did decide on doing my own hair as a result and it looked great. And so many compliments on the day.
I figure if the Duchess of Cambridge can do her own makeup on her wedding day with the whole world watching then it’s definitely worth considering.

Oh nooooo hahaha! That is exactly why I’m doing my own makeup. Obviously to show up in pictures you have to wear a little more than normal, but I want it to be a little more than MY normal, not instagram normal 😂

I did my own makeup too. I do my makeup everyday, so it wasn’t completely out of my comfort zone. I just watched some youtube tutorials to enhance my everyday look some.

Exact same thing happened to me a couple weeks ago! I was very explicit about wanting minimal makeup as I barely ever wear any, and she apparently completely ignored me. Thick foundation, orange bronzer. The one thing I did ask for was thin, cat eye eyeliner, sort of sixties style. I looked in the mirror to see basically my whole lid covered in thick black liner. I about died.
Decided on doing my own makeup after a disappointing, expensive trial.

tduck1 : I was going to do my own makeup, but I did a trial with an airbrush artist because my mother and sister are not comfortable doing their makeup. I swore if it looked too heavy, I would tell my mom and sister to lump it because I wanted to look like myself.
the airbrush foundation felt like skin AND I could see my freckles through it. Even the falsies were light and looked like me but better. I didn’t like the blush color she used and she took copious notes and mixed a new color in front of me. The amount of money I would have to spend on decent makeup for the day of (because I don’t normally wear anything other than my Tom Ford eyeliner, drugstore mascara, and eyebrow pencil) I could get someone to put on makeup that feels like a second skin.
and for people saying Kate Middleton did her own makeup… she didn’t look that good, imho. Her blush and under eye eyeliner is super heavy and makes her look older. She is gorgeous and could have looked radiant if she let a professional do it. So if you are great at makeup, then go for it! But I’d also try an airbrush artist, just for a trial.
