You can bring a picture and a good MUA will know how to alter it to fit you. I would say though that this looks like really heavy makeup for someone who doesn’t routinely wear it.

heavenlyflower :  I don’t wear any at all either and have gotten it professionally done a few times. I brought a picture once and thought I looked too “made up” for me it’s all about the eyes. If it’s a lot of eyeliner and especially false lashes, I don’t like it. But that’s why you do a trial, right? πŸ˜„

heavenlyflower :  def. bring an inspo pic, just be prepared if your MUA is good, she will tell you what can be done – this look is a lot about eye lid shape, for example. So if you have hooded eyes or deeper set eyes, it won’t look the same.

The foundation is a little thick for my taste, but the overall look is very pretty and do-able. I’d just say lighter on the shading and foundation, there’s no reason to have it look heavy, esp for a wedding.

Your best bet is to bring 3 favorite looks – one that feature someone with your eye shape, one for colors you like, and one for overall feel.

100% tell them what you like. It’s about making you happy. I sent my MUA multiple pictures prior to my trial. She actually asked for them. She also asked how much makeup I wear daily to guage how I’d feel in heavy makeup. I asked her for fresh and polished makeup and nothing heavy.

Go in there with a very clear idea of what you want and be assertive until she gets it right. I let mine pick my lipstick colour and it works well but it was definitely a discussion and she knew how to accomplish the look I wanted in a way that worked well on me.

What I used as my inspo pic:

Definitely take a few pictures! I’ve started screenshotting pics from instagram of makeup that I like lol. A good MUA will be able to tell you what will work/not work and how to adjust for your face.

I agree w the tips here and also to bring a photo of yourself that you like–that way the make up artist can shoot for a more dressed up version of you how you like yourself.

Mainly I’m commenting to LOL in response to your Gremlins remark!
