Hello fellow destination bees! What do you plan to do about your hair and makeup? Are you getting it done, or doing it yourself? I am on the fence with this one. The resort I am staying at has not so good reviews for the salon, but to get an outside vendor in, it is $60 pp. I really wanted to do the airbrush makesup since it won’t sweat off, but I was put off when they told me I had to western union the money. Ummm, yeah no!!! So I am back to square one! What are you girls doing?

im not using my resorts hair/makeup people as ive heard they don’t speak english very well (and my spanish isnt great) and they dont do air brush makeup. because of the heat in mexico and the length of my day – airbrush makeup is v important to me
i think its worth paying the outside vendor fee…but i figure that given im spending a lot of money on a photographer, i want to look the best i can
can you not do a direct bank transfer? its pretty normal to pay for services in advance i think, its the western union bit thats a bit odd. i would try to contact a previous bride directly (through a website like best destination wedding) to make sure its all normal

I think I am going to be a DIY. I need to learn some cute braided hairstyles for my daughters and then probably leave mine curly. Since I figure there will be a ton of humidity, I’m just going to work with my natural hair texture and make sure it is healthy before I go. Will probably use a curling iron on it day of and make sure it has some sort of style to stay off my face. I’m going to see if my mom is willing to learn the braids to help me with the girls’ hair because I think it will make some sweet pictures, not to mentioin take some stress off me! Lol.
I need to research makeup products that will stay put and not sweat or cry off. I’ve seen that airbrushing makeup Carmondy from What Not To Wear uses at Walmart and Sally’s. I don’t know how good it is, but I don’t think it’s very expensive. I don’t know if you use eyeliner, but the liquid stay still liner from stilla (I got it at sephora) is awesome. I also use the sephora kohl eye liner pencil for the waterline and that stays on pretty well. I fear my biggest difficulty will be foundation/concealer that stays on! So I’m going to work harder at keeping my skin nice and pretty so I won’t have to conceal too much! 😉

There was no hair and make up options near my Destination Wedding, so I had an appointment at this salon 45 minutes away. Even though it’s a salon in a 4 start hotel, they had no photos of the stylists work. That worried me.
I ended up doing my own hair and make up because 1) I wanted to hike on the day of the wedding and this 11am appt. messed things up, 2) I didn’t feel like paying that much for someone’s work I have no clue about.
I had a hair trial done in my town and I determined that my face/hair does not look good with an updo. Now if I really wanted an updo and it looked good, I would have proceeded with the hair appt. However, I left my hair down (which is how I wear it normally) and made it curly with hot rollers and put a flower to the side. I was not in a tropical climate but up in the mountains, the day had a high of about 70, so it was perfect.
For the make up, I watched lots of YouTube videos, bought a few extra things (like under eye concealer, a new lipstick and bronzer). I tried to apply it heavier than normal, but you cannot really tell in the photos.
I am glad I did. My photographer did great.

I am getting it done, because like weddingbound, i want pampering!
I was also asked to western union the money but we agreed on pay-pal. On Best destination weddings forum this makeup artist is highly rated and reviewed and i have seen lots of pics of her work and she is super quick to respond to any question i have.
I am also getting her assistant to do my hair. I am more worried about the hair than make-up! My hair frizzes up in no time when on vacation and the wedding is in Jamaica.

@Chyna2012: Is your makeup artist Rachel Edwards? I might propose paypal as well if it is!

I’m getting my hair done at the resort spa and doing my make-up myself.
