I sweat when I get nervous, Is there a product I can use on my face so that my makeup doesn’t sweat off the day of my wedding? The plan is to have the ceremony outside in October so I’m hoping the temperature isn’t too bad, which will exasperate the problem. Thanks!!

many makeup brands have a makeup setting spray available. urban decay has one called all nighter but i’ve never tried any of them. as a mua i use airbrush foundation and it stays put throughout anything.

I have the same skin tone and believe it or not I look like Queen Latifah. You would not believe how many people stop me and tell me that at least twice a day. Hope that gives you some idea of my skin tone?

@niasg1: oh yes i’m familiar but i wouldn’t know what specific shade to recommend for your airbrush machine. what kind of machine do you have? what brands have you used in it?

I was quoted the following for airbrush makeup for my wedding day:
$95 on-site fee
$70 for the bride (that’s me!) & a seperate $60 for the trial
$55 for bridesmaid
$10 for lashes
She charges a minimum of $220, so I would have to get at least one of my bridesmaids done as well. Do you think this is a good price? I was inquiring about the airbrushing just for me and was considering having the other makeup artist come to do my bridesmaids and the moms. This is the only person in town that does airbrush, so if I want it, I think I’m stuck paying this price.

@jmr: it all depends on your area and unfortunately since she is the only one around who does airbrush she can charge whatever she wants. my price scale is similar but i do not charge an “on site fee” because i don’t have a studio or salon for clients to come to. it seems unfair to charge a fee like that if you don’t offer one. i also charge much less for a trial run because i have never had a bride not book me to do her makeup after a trial. i give a discount in that respect. i do charge a bit more for the bride because i spend more time on her and usually stick around for touch ups. i like to stay competitive with my pricing because there are a great deal of airbrush artists in my area.
what city are you getting married in/around? have you tried thumbtack.com? i use them to advertise my business and i get a lot of traffic on there.

IMO shes charging going rate regardless of airbrush. Every pro in my area charges along the same lines.
She has to make it worth her time if shes only doing one person. Frankly packing, driving to location, and clean up are not worth my time for only $70, I wouldn’t do it for that either, so I understand her minimum. She would probably wave the site fee if you book the whole bridal party. My consult is $65 and there was no credit given as a consult is more work than the day of. Also airbrush makeup does cost more for the artist.
I didnt charge extra for lashes they were just included in the price, maybe 1 out of 20 did not want lashes.
Also IMO Thumbtack is the worst place to look as its a lot of bottom feeders of the industry, they undercut, dont pay taxes, or have insurance because if a vendor has these things they would not be able to offer such cheap prices and actually make a profit. You get what you pay for so buyer beware.. (also not saying all are bottom feeders but I hope you get my point)

@Styles: wow that was really offensive. living in indiana, i am not required to have insurance to charge to do makeup.
Using thumbtack, I have never undercut or been shady to another MUA. why do you assume they don’t pay taxes?
as far as “you get what you pay for” how does that apply to having make up applied? assuming a client has a trial run, just like with having your hair styled, if you don’t like it don’t book them. yes you are paying for the service you have received just like anything else. i have never had a dissatisfied client, i have received rave reviews and even better, recomendations for new clients. I only charge a travel fee if the location is outside the greater Indianapolis area. i love working with brides which is why i’ve been doing it for 8 years. I charge less because I know what it’s like to be a bride on a budget(or even back when i started, knowing i would someday be a bride on a budget) and ultimately the only expense is my time and some product. it’s worth it to me to be able to offer that sort of service for someone who can’t afford paying more but still wants to look amazing on her wedding day. it has nothing to do with trying to undercut another artist.
I suppose every instance is situational but as far as me and my experiences and location. I don’t agree that air brush foundation is more expensive to the artist, in the long run. I use OCC Skin and I order it from a makeup boutique in LA or directly from OCC, both of which offer a discount for artists. the formula allows you to use less than traditional foundation. the cost is also about 50% less than a high end foundation for, IMO, a superior coverage and product overall.
bottom feeders, indeed.

@janetsnakehole Its not offensive, I gave general advice about thumbtack. I know they don’t pay for either because the price offed is not industry standard and you cannot make a profit covering overhead, taxes, time, and profit. Thumbtack is mostly junk so yes you get what you pay for most of the time if its a cheap deal so is the product. Like I said before Im not saying all are I also didn’t say you were. I also didnt say you undercut it was general statement. What I dont like in brides getting burned by good deals. So buyer beware still stands about thumbtack in general. people who run a business like that burn way too many people specially in the wedding industry. This is a wedding board so I gave an opinion about TT.
I would of just directed it right at if that were the case and I didn’t say anything was wrong with your service at all.
Every business person should have liability insurance. Are you sure you shouldn’t have liability insurance in your state? What if a bride sues you? Everyone is sue happy nowadays. Do you have insurance to cover your kit? Mine is well over a $3000 investment so if it were ever stolen or the like it would be very hard to recover with no insurance. I also know what makeup costs Ive done it for 10 years. Good compressors and guns are not cheap. And if you carry two kinds because not all women can use the same foundation.. It may have pay offs but it is a bigger investment than some palettes and brushes.
