Hey there! I’m an African-American woman with dark skin and I’m looking for make-up artists in the DMV area. Not sure what my budget should be, but I really don’t want to spend over $150. Is that fair? Advice and referrals needed! Thanks!

Does the $150 include the make-up trial? I don’t have any recs for you, but during my wedding make-up search, most of the day of make-up is at least $150. In terms of your search, you can check out wedding wire or the knot. Another option is for you to find a make-up artist that you like from the department store. They usually do some freelancing on the side.
My make-up trial is $80 and the make-up for the day of will be $190. The day of price was a little higher than a lot of the people I’ve seen. I normally see prices around $165 – 180.

sara elizabeth artistry – $150 for my hair, makeup and Maid/Matron of Honor hair trial. Day of is $85 per bridesmaid, $125 for airbrush make up and $125 for hair. She is from MD but does plus size fashion shows in NY and LA. Very easy to get a long with! Does a beautiful job.

I’m using Marquia Kinard from Blend Events (http://blendevent.com/#). Love her work. She’s a little over your budget though – $160 for day of (another $100 if you also want a trial). However if you’re getting married during peak wedding season (april-october) you need a minimum of 4 people to have services I believe.
