I found mine through recommendations.  I only did a trial with one person but that’s because I liked the way she did my makeup and it last all day long through a contact lens freak out.  I would ask your other wedding vendors for recommendations.

If your looking for a makeup artist to come to you, you can always try:

1. calling salon’s in the area to see if they do "on location" makeup

2. ask around, maybe someone has an artist they have used before that they liked

3.  Google search – bridal makeup artists in _________

To pick your artist ask to see photos of their work or maybe a resume´

Then once you found one that seems qualified ask to do a trial run.  That is the time that you can really figure out what you want to do for makeup.  Maybe even ask to try two different looks to see which one you like better…

At that point you will know if you like your artist or not…. keep in mind you will still have to pay for the trial run, even if you choose not to use that artist.  Also keep in mind some artist require a "on location" or "travel" fee when traveling to you.  This really depends on the artist and if they have to travel far to get to you.

Good luck!!

I also second the advice of finding good recommendations via word of mouth! Licesned makeup artists aren’t always the best. I know it’s risky, but you could always try Craigslist too! Where are you located?

I went to a one-stop bridal shop in Los Angeles, CA that not only sells dresses, but also does photos and makeup.

I googled makeup artist and found a few in your area that you may want to visit:

Birmingham’s Premiere Event Make-up Studio At Birmingham Glam

Santa Fe Day Spa

Votre Day Salon

ChiBella Makeup Artistry (Tucsaloosa, AL – Not sure if that’s close to where you live).
