Had my first makeup trial today! Since we’re doing extensive tattoo cover, we wanted to take a couple runs before the big day to refine technique and get a sense of the time investment we’ll need to get it right.
I did a ton of research and the consensus was that for large areas, Dermablend was the best bet. Getting everything I needed was not cheap $75, but it goes a really long way so I have more or less 10x as much as I need. We found 3 layers was enough for very thorough coverage, so she’s going to lay down 2, work on my face, let the Dermablend dry, then do one last pass. It is a shade or two darker than my skintone, and luckily they have a shade match guarantee, so I am going to send it back and get a shade or so lighter so it doesn’t come out quite so different from my natural color.
I wanted a glamorous look, tending toward dramatic. It’s A LOT in person, but photographs beautifully; which is the most important part.
The lip started to melt a bit (it’s 90 here today, and I’m getting married in October where the average high is about 67) but otherwise it’s holding up really well. It’s way more makeup than I would ever wear normally, but I’m very pleased with the outcome.
Next time we’re doing it with the dress so we know how far down to go based on there the top of the bodice hits, but it’s still with the seamstress, so that will have to wait.
