I have scheduled my first makeup trial. I was wondering if there was an expectation for a tip for this? Please advise. would love to hear what you have done or if you are a makeup artist what you expect?

When would you suggest starting this? Our wedding is 5 months away….It’s too soon now I would think. Is waiting till 8 weeks before too last minute?

I had mine this past Saturday. I purposely chose that day because I had a wedding to attend so I wanted to see how long the makeup held up. It did!

I read somewhere that it should be done 3 months before the wedding. I did mine now because the makeup artist wanted me to schedule it this far in advance. I think it’s safe this way I could shop around and schedule other trials if I didn’t like this one. But I liked her and will sign the contract soon.

@mrtnza: Yes, you should tip a makeup artist just as you would a hairdresser or nail technician. 15%-20% would be customary.
@cosmocity: 8 weeks is not too late. You just want to do it with plenty of time to choose another makeup artist if it doesn’t go well. At the same time, you don’t want it to be so soon that you may have changed your haircolor/hairstyle/accessories, since those could affect the overall look you want to achieve.
