If there is a will there is way- but that doesn’t mean that it won’t be difficult.  I think it is very noble of you to consider adopting an older kid as older kids often have a difficult time finding a family- but there are lots of challenges in doing that and your heart has to be in the right place.  It can’t be solely because you think it will be cheaper.

I don’t think we would be able to afford childcare in our area either.  Instead, I will be a Stay-At-Home Mom, but I will work off hours when my husband isn’t.  I’ll be teaching at an after school program on weekends and tutoring evening.  It is a happy compromise- I get to bring in some money, save a TON not having to pay for childcare, and will get to spend more time with my children.  It does mean less time with my husband, but I don’t tutor every night, have Sunday mornings off, and don’t work weekends over the summer- so we just have to make more of the time we have together.  Maybe this is an option for you?  You said you are both teachers, so perhaps one of you can do tutoring until your kids are school aged?
