Fiance and I are in the beginning stages of creating a wedding planning app for the iPad. I’ve brought this up before but now we’re finally ready to get the ball rolling. As I’ve mentioned a million times on here, Fiance is an independant mac/iPhone/iPad developer. He has a bunch of apps out with his business partner but he wants to branch out on our own for this app. I’m pretty excited about it (we’re trying to come up with a company name now). He wants me to come up with the ideas and he’ll create it.
I have a few wedding planning apps that are nice but they each only have certain features. I think having an app that includes everything would be a hit. I got some great suggestions the last time I posted about this but I wanted to see if there are any fresh ideas.
So, if you were to purchase your ideal wedding planning app that could really do anything (within reason), what would it include?

um….make me lose 20 pounds?
hehe, just kidding.
Some sort of universal filing system to keep track of all my vendor info would have been amazing.
ETA: Also, a schedule. Not another freaking checklist, but an actual calendar feature where you can put in when you want to work on what, and see it laid out in a billion different ways.

in the early stages of planning, I would see a lot of ideas and bookmark them, but then have to dig through a million bookmarks to find things! I don’t know if it’s even possible, but maybe a more organized bookmarking system, or something that allows you to automatically save pictures (press&hold, save to “xxx app!”) to a clipboard in your app. maybe if you press the photo IN that app, it would give you info and links to help. I hope that made sense. 😉

I agree with this completely – aaaand I have to admit, I hate the budget planners on the wedding website! Realistically (although, maybe I’m the only one!) my dress is not a certain % compared to food compared to photography. I hate when it says your dress should be x% of your total budget, etc. Not always realistic.

Um. You are the coolest ever.
Def a calendar of some sort, would be great if it can sync with iCal or at least the calendar ON the iPad.
A task master list of some sort that will be able to give you alerts that you set up. Something that you can check off as done but does not get deleted taht way you can keep track.
A camera function so that you can take pics of stuff you see and it will be able to save to the app and tag (like FB app) with category like food, flowers, dress, etc.

I definitely agree with the picture sorting aspect. It would be great to be able to bookmark a photo and have it saved in its own little category.
The vendor details would be great, too. I love my vendors, but I don’t necessarily want their number in my phone forever. It would be cool to open up your app and have a place to store all their contact info.
Some sort of uber budget calculator could be cool. Maybe something that breaks down how much you want to spend on each category, and then you could add items with prices and watch your budget shrinking :).

You girls are awesome. I just went over all of these ideas with Fiance and he said everything is possible. I’m starting to spec it out tonight so keep the ideas coming!

Have any of you used The Knot Budget Calculator?
What I like about that is that you enter #of guest and your total budget. Then it divvys the categories per recommended percentage you should spend. But then you can individually alter each category then it will subtract it from the total budget #. So say if dress is suppose to be 5% but you used 10%? Then that 5% would automatically add to your total budget # as a red over budget by 5%.
Something like that I think would be awesome I think for brides.
Another thing is you know how there are recommended timelines for booking things? IF that’s preloaded onto the calendar in the app but with ability to edit. That way at like 3 months you might get a notification like hey you should be looking at officiants now!
I think the key to a wedding plannng app is a lot of preloaded guidelines with the ability to edit since every wedding is different.

ooh I just thought of another one! it could be totally not possible, though. I dunno – I’m not good with stuff like that.
a dress-your-bridal-party thing! like david’s bridal’s website? but um..well I guess this was pointless. LOL. because I was thinkingg to use different dresses from the internet, but, that’s just insane.
well maybe this pointless post can prove as inspiration in a way. hahaha.

I don’t have any additional ideas but I just wanted to say that it sounds great and keep us posted! I could really use something like this for my iPhone/iPad.

@sorrycharlie: Re: Dress your wedding: I asked him and he said it’s not really possible. We wouldn’t really have anywhere to get the dresses from. Though, if anyone has any creative ideas as to how this could work, we’re all ears. Cool idea!
@Gerbera: Great idea. Adding it to the spec.

We want to add a fitness tracker. FI’s current software company already has a fitness app that we will integrate but I don’t know that I want there to be a million fitness features. If we were to include a fitness in the app, what are a few features you would want it to have?
ETA: We just brainstormed and came up with a weight loss goal and tracker, a food journal and the USDA food database for nutrition info. Anything else you can think of?

@UpstateCait: the basics – calorie tracker, exercise log maybe?

Budget management. Anything at all you can do to help with that, do it!

@EthicalWeddings: That will definitely be included.
