- Wedding: October 2014
So I am looking at corsages and bouts and i just cannot fathom spending $15/a piece on them when I can make them myself for cheaper…since I already own large amounts of floral tape, and pins, and floral wire, as well as tons of hot glue and craft suplies from other projects that i have done and helping with my great aunts 90th birthday party where we made her and her sisters corsages and such….so i have that stuff….
so basically my investment would be: for all the corsages and bouts:
-18 flowers (2 flowers/moms corsages, 1 per bout)-our local grocery store i can buy them for $2.49 each so 44.82
-greenery-(can buy bulk and would only put on corsages and FIs Bout so he stands out, just a sprig or two) $6.99 for the lot
-Black ribbon-$1.99 at hobby lobby
-wristlets for corsages-about $6 for the additional ones I would need that I dont already have
so roughly $59.80 for the supplies I would need, plus do them in a few hours with help from my Maid/Matron of Honor whose mom is a floarist (in another state and already booked solid for our day :(…) and Maid/Matron of Honor has spent alot of years working in the flower shop after school to help…so between the two of us it would take no time to crank them all out….
I already own the other supplies as I love doing floral crafts and have done several projects for people…
so we wold save about $70 from what we were quoted for just the bouts and corsages, since i ended up reverting to doing flowers for the sake of expediencey and lack of headache of figuring out alternatives, and have made my bouquet, bridesmaid bouquets ect ( i wanted silks for mine….debating on doing silks for all)….so by doing that and doing them myself i will have went from a $350 florist bill to only needing to pay like $60 for supplies….and some time….
my biggest hold up is obviously I would do them within a day or so of the wedding and have to store them in a cool place (we luckily have a great fridge in our garage that wll hold them perfectly at a decent temperature)….and this seems like alot of stress before the wedding…but then again I find crafting kind of cathartic and relaxing…..and right now (if youve seen my other posts….) i need all that i can get of soothing things for me to do that week….
since all of our centerpieces are done….linens are taken care of ….programs are done….favors are done…gifts are done….this will be the last big project i have left….since the florists ive talked to are wanting to add extras, and sparkles…ect…and just not how i want them….simple is what we want….it may save me a headache to do it myself with help from my lovely Maid/Matron of Honor
so bees am i nuts?? for those who have done it how did it turn out?? was it worth the savings….(right now we are making every penny count and are scaling back things so we stay under budget….
