Where are you located?  Maybe some bees will be able to provide insight on some local fabric areas.  It is very risky purchasing fabric online.  Have you talked to local shop about maybe ordering the color you want?  Good luck on making your dress.  I heard it is quite the project.

Wow. I wish I was as crafty as you. I can barely stitch. To answer your question, have you tried going to fabric wholesalers or warehouses? In Houston, there is an area of the Chinatown down here that has tons of fabric warehouses. If they don’t have the fabric in stock, odds are they can order it or direct you to where you can find it.

Hi I stitch also…I have a fashion degree and was also considering making my own dress…I decided against it in the end just due to not having enough time and the stress as well!! I also used to find it difficult to source fabrics locally…have u tried buying fabrics online… I used this great company in Germany…. They will even send your free samples for you to look at before you commit to buy….I bought fabrics off them before and they are really good quality….shipping takes a few weeks but could be worth it of you find he right fabric!! The website I used was http://www.myfabrics.co.uk I hope this hellucked good luck!! X x

@nathil:  hi just read your post that you live in London! Have you tried Berwick streeti in Soho? They have renowned fabric shops there such as Berwick street cloth shop and the cloth house!! I know when I was a fashion student we would travel up to London just to go to these shops…there are many other fabrics shops in Berwick street too worth checking out! Might be worth a trip..hope you find the fabric you are after good luck x

Note taking that fabrics in Berwick street can be quite pricey but they are the best quality!! X x
