I don’t think it’s necessary at all.  If you want to design one and slap it on some stuff, go for it, but none of your guests will miss it if it’s not there.  I can’t even remember a wedding I’ve been to that had one.

A monogram isn’t required. I used to do wedding videography, and I only saw a monogram once that I can recall. And if you do decide to make one, the one I did see was actually really nice and I believe the bride designed it herself. It was only on the aisle runner from what I remember.
