Hello Bee’s –
Every Holiday season we often feel the pressue to “be happy” when in reality it’s often the most stressful times of the year. Christmas is my all time favorite holiday, I am one of those crazy people who listens to Christmas music all throughout December.
One Christmas before my Fiance and I were engaged, his grandfather passed away suddenly a month or two before the holiday’s began. On top of that my Fiance had gotten word that he was going to be losing his job at the end of December. My Fiance just wanted to skip the holiday’s because he had nothing to be happy about.
Here’s what I did and what we continue to do to make our spirits bright. For 12 days, I did a holiday surprise for my Fiance that cost me little to no money. I took him on a horse drawn carriage ride in downtown, took him to see a college produced Christmas play, made smores in the backyard one night, watched holiday movies, took him to a holiday parade, put up a Christmas tree and made a fun evening out of it, took him to historic places that had been decorated for the holidays…among other things. By day 12 he apologized for being a grinch and not getting into the holiday spirit. The following year he insisted that we do 12 days of Christmas again, I was so amazed by all the surprises he had arranged for us to do. I cannot wait to start planning for this year 🙂
Do you have any suggestions on making Christmas bright when things aren’t really bright?
I am thinking about surprising Fiance with doing some volunteer work at our church during the holiday’s.
