As a penguin lover, my idea would be to take her to the zoo and propose in front of the penguins. Extra points if you have a zoo in town that does “educational experiences” where you can go in and learn about the penguins and interact with them. Our local zoo offers a program where you can pay to have a special tour of the penguin area where they educate you about the animal and also let you interact with one of their “penguin ambassadors”, the money they collect goes to the care of the animals as well as conservation of the penguins in the wild.

Could you have an artist or calligrapher write in a pretty script on it, “her name
will you marry me?” and use the art gallery idea. Even if it’s framed in glass you can use chalk pens. Then when she comes across it and turns to look at you, you can be down on one knee.

I think one of the coolest proposals I’ve seen is one where the bride-to-be was brought to different places (kind of like a treasure hunt), where she got clues about where to meet up next, throughout a day. Maybe some cute stuffed and/or penguin memoribilia could have messages tied to them for her clues? Something like this? ??

is there an aqaurium near where you live? i know at mystic aquarium in ct they hae penguin encounters (you pay them money to go sit in a room and feed penguins and i dont know hang out with them too i think?) well right on their website the have a thing where you can call them and they will help you arrange a propsal. you could set up some sort of penguin encounter and sayyou have a gift for her and give her the painting. she thinks thats it and you go about your day. shes figuring nothing will happen cause you gave her a painting and then didnt act differently. later on before you go tell her you should go say goodbye tothe penguins (since you are now such good friends with them) and when her back is turned taking a picture of them-you know she will take a picture of them and if she doesnt then prompt her to- get down on one knee and propose! (or something…im also a little glad im not a guy lol)

So here’s my two cents…. You live near Tahoe, and even though she’s not overly outdoorsy you said y’all have some spots you love. So I’d plan to take her to a spot on/near Lake Tahoe with a gorgeous view. I’d have the penguin art canvas gift wrapped. Once at the spot, I’d give her the gift, and when she opens it, you can say you know how much she adores penguins. Then present her with anothe gift, a gift wrapped pebble. If she looks confused, you can say ‘penguins mate for life, and when they find their life mate, they present them with a pebble’ …. Now if she understands you’re about to propose she’ll probably start crying at this point, if she’s still not quite sure you could make a comment about how you found her the perfect pebble.., and then drop to one knee. Make sure you have someone hidden to take pictures!
Let us know what you ultimately do!

this is a perfect idea and incorporates everything and would absolutely surprise her! I vote for this one.

Maybe a little off topic but a colleague’s fiance was obsessed with a penguin proposal. He had a custom ring box that looks like a pebble made and proposed on a rocky beach with that. His Fiance thought it was a random pebble… Until he opened it and there was a gorgeous pear shaped ring.
