@Future_Mrs_Johns:  He should totally stand on your side! And it’s not so unconventional anymore. Many brides call them “bridesmen.” Maybe he could wear a tie/bowtie in the same color as your bridesmaid dresses?

@Future_Mrs_Johns:  I did it(: He stood with the bridesmaid we called him the “Man of Honor” No one looked at me funny nor questioned it.

I was the “best man” in my best friends wedding. I stood on his side. I was also best friends with the bride. I wore a black dress.. (the brides request) to match the suits. It was the same fabric as the bridesmaids dresses though.. so it all gelled nicely.

Do whatever you want. I see nothing wrong with having him on your side as a Man of Honor or something.

I just found your blog post and wanted to share that I will be having a Maid of Honor and Man of Honor (technically a bridesMAN, but I didn’t like that designation) standing on my side. My male friend is straight and was perfectly fine with being in my party, on my side, rather than a traditional groomsman.

Man of Honor, or Honor Attendant or something… it’s fine! Better than just filling the space with someone you care less about.

my best guy friend is standing up on my side in a tux!!!! To distinguish him from the groom/grooms men, his tie and vest will be the same color as the bridesmaids dresses!

I think it’s perfectly fine and it’s actually very common where I come from. The concept of bridesmaids is fairly new here; many people still go with just the legal requirement of having a “witness” – most people choose their sibling. A friend of mine (let’s call her Maya) chose her best friend (male, straight) and she stood at the altar surrounded by 3 guys – her groom and both their male witnesses, all in dark suits. I called that picture “Maya and the penguins”, it looked phenomenal 🙂

I think it’s awesome! definitely have him on your side with your other bridesmaids, especiially since he is cool with it! i love it when people put their own personalities and rules into their own weddings! makes it really nice and special! i say go for it! 🙂

There’s definitely nothing wrong with having a male BM! Just stick him in a suit with a coordinating tie or vest!

I love the idea of a male Bridesmaid or Best Man and agree with him in a suit with a coordinating tie!
