my OB told me pregnancy is about the only time a doctor will tell you to load up on carbs. They may help you from feeling like you’re starving to death between snacks 🙂

I ate SO much greek yogurt my first trimester.  It gave me energy (relative anyways…lol), and I swear at the slightest sign of nausea it went completely away!  Salty foods such as crackers were very soothing too.  Enjoy it now!!  I maybe had a couple weeks were I could really “eat for two,” then my appetite was more normal until around third trimester where I can actually eat very little without feeling super ill and uncomfortable (no more room for digestion!).

I’m only 9 weeks but I feel like I’m always hungry- thankfully not much nausea tho! I’ve been snacking on avocado’s, plums, blueberries with cheddar (sounds weird, but it’s soo good!), broccoli with blue cheese dressing or hummus, hummus & pretzels, apples & peanut butter, chips & salsa (I’ve had major cravings for mexican food!), cut up cheddar cheese, the sargento cheese/almond/cranberries snack packs, pistachios, plain club crackers, & the noosa fruit yoghurts… My only real junk food so far has been the mini chocolate donuts from lil debbie & the chocolate pudding snack packs- to reward myself for those shitty days at work LOL!

In my first trimester the only thing I could really stomach was carbs and fruit. So I ate a lot of bagels, cheerios and lots of varied fruit. Now that I’m over that I tend to have wholegrain waffles with peanut butter, string cheese, triscuits, berries, hummus and veggies/wholegrain pita chips, trail mix, greek yogurt. I’m hungry all the time but getting bored of my snacks so I’m hoping some other mamas have better ideas than me!

Here’s an example of what I ate today, so far (I’m 13 weeks), by 3pm : 2 whole grain toasts with a big glass of 2% milk, one glass of orange juice with a banana-ginger muffin, whole wheat cheddar gold fish crackers, one peach, a bowl of zucchini noodles with creamy Philly sauce with sundried tomatoes and shrimps, dark chocolate covered almonds. Sounds like a lot but I still haven’t gained a pound! Hoping that will change soon 🙂

niki1983 :  I’m the same way!  Today I’ve had the following: Bagel and creamcheese, glass of milk, a peach, a mixed green salad with tomatoes/mozz/andbalsamic dressing, a chicken kabob plate with meditteranean pasta salad and hummus.  I’m 14 weeks and have gained 1 pound.

MrsBG :  I read yesterday that in our 2nd trimester, we’re supposed to gain a pound a week! Yikes! I just bought myself a liter of chocolate milk that I’ll sip at work this morning instead of my water. Hopefully the extra calories will help a bit.

niki1983 :   MrsBG :  ok that’s totally not fair haha. Last time I checked I’ve gained 14 lbs! Somehow I feel like I can’t control it – it just seems to happen regardless of what I’ve eaten or not eaten that week!

YogaMama :   niki1983 :  I don’t gain a lot during early pregnancy.  I think I was up 5 pounds at 20 weeks with my first but ultimately gained close to 35 because of a giant baby/placenta and so much swelling!  I lost all but 3 pounds by 10 days postpartum.  My goal is about 20 pounds of weight gain since I am overweight and I am not due in the summer so the swelling shouldn’t be as bad hopefully.

MrsBG :  oh see I’m the opposite. I gain a lot upfront and then it levels out. Last pregnancy I gained 7 lbs in my first tri and I ended up at 34 lbs. This time I gained 8 or 9 and I’m hoping to end up around the same. I also had a big baby so I’m kind of hoping that doesn’t repeat again – plus he was early!

I’ve been eating an absurd amount of Shells and Cheese, and I LOVE chocolate milk. Also, popcorn, chips and guac, cottage cheese with fruit, salads, oatmeal, applesauce, toast, eggs, popsicles. I realize these are not all very healthy, but TBH I’m shoveling in whatever I can get my hands on these days. I was up 3.6 lbs at my 10+2 appt. I joke that by the end of this pregnancy I will be the next star on My 600lb Life.

SeaOfLove : I went with what I could cope with. Unfortunately chips sorry, fries seemed to settle my stomach as did toast. On my healthy days I’d have salad or a veg chilli I had prepped. And yeah plain crackers were my go to snack infact meal in the first trimester, one colleague guessed I was PG from this.
