I don’t really know much about these, but for all my diamond needs I go to pricescope.com. I think there is a forum specifically about man made diamonds.

I got a “diamonique” extra ring for when i don’t want to use my real one.  It’s from QVC.com and seriously I can’t tell the difference between the real one and the “diamonique” one when holding them side by side. I don’t know if it’s guaranteed, but it was so cheap I don’t even care, like $30!!

I’ll try to post a pic of them both together later when I get home….

My sister was telling me about lab diamonds and how much cheaper they are.  They are also nice because they are non-conflict diamonds.  It makes me wish I had gotten one.

@rachel leigh: manmade diamonds are not cheaper than mined ones, unless you’re getting a yellow diamond (which is cheaper than a natural yellow diamond). Your sister may be talking about simulants, which are significantly less expensive, but not the same as a diamond.

@Momma: we considered getting a lab diamond, but ended up not because it was practically impossible to get a white one with a good cut. Apparently the white ones are quite difficult to produce (and I didn’t want yellow), and most of them are under one carat and not cut to the level that I would want in a diamond (according to pricescope’s calculations, the ones I was looking at would have had some ugly fish-eye effects). If there’s any way you can see one in person before you buy, I’d recommend that.

So you can’t get a white diamond but you can get a canary diamond for a fraction of a natural one’s cost?

I’m in! I love colored diamonds!
