Fiance and I got a set of 3 dance lessons from his mom when we first got engaged; we’re only now getting around to taking them. My insanely busy first year of teaching got in the way, plus I wanted us to know what song we were doing so that we could learn the right kind of dance and choreograph it. The song we picked was a rumba and we told our instructor that on the first night.
First individual lesson last week: Waltz and rumba, basic steps
Group class: practiced rumba and learned 2 variations or special steps
Group class: salsa
Second individual lesson tonight: went over the rumba and the 2 steps we learned at the group class, learned foxtrot, did waltz and swing
When we left, we talked about the next lesson, and I asked to do rumba and practice our song and prepare for it and learn more new rumba steps, but she said after the lesson we could talk about taking more lessons to do that. It feels like we’re not getting what I thought FI’s mom had bought for us, and they’re trying to upsell us. I know that they’re probably just doing a standard lesson where we learn all the basic steps, but what I want is to learn OUR dance. I’m really frustrated and upset because the first dance is really important to me. Do you all think I’m being stupud? Are my expectations reasonable? Do you think they’re trying to get more money out of me?
