Ladies who are doing DIY manzanita centerpieces, I have the branches stuck into floral foam but can see I need it to hold a lot better. I bought Plaster of Paris (2 boxes of 2kg) but am worried I’m going to have to use of TON of it to do 20 of them. I also just want to check with you bees if you think this is the best thing to use to really secure them.

When I did my centerpieces I used floral foam and cat litter. It was the most cost effective. I just layered litter then put the foam with the branch stuck through it on top then put more litter on top to weigh it down, then used some spanish moss to cover it so no one at the table could see the litter.

I just read about someone who used heavy river rocks (you can buy a HUGE bag of these at most Home Depot type stores) and expanding foam. Here’s a link to her tutorial: http://saecca.wordpress.com/2011/04/17/manzanita-madness/

@toshella: Thanks! That tutorial was kind of funny. The guy at Home Depot had suggested either the PP or expanding foam and my fh thought the first would be better. I think I’m going to try both the kitty little and the foam tonight. I was worried I’d need a lot of the foam but it says she only needed 3!
Ah, I’m feeling relieved now about this project.
