@Scc6a:  Its how you carry the weight too. She probably carried all 118lbs on those boobs and hips as shes very bone thin elsewhere. Im the same way. My bones stick out everywhere yet I am 185lbs lol its all on my boobs and hips.

Sizing has changed. Also her size changed a bit over her career.

She’s more a modern US size 8 or 10 at her heaviest.

Sizing has definitely changed over the years… and DRASTICALLY

Back in High School… I went from being one minute in a Girls Size 14 to a Misses Size 9-10 overnight

Well actually over one Summer… I grew boobs !!

By the end of High School, 4 years later in the 1970s

I would have been about Marilyn’s height, but closer to 125 – 130 Lbs.  And I was wearing a Misses Size 11-12 (36B – 30 – 36)

Even at my skinniest 115 Lbs, I never saw a 23 inch waist !!

More like 26 inches, and I was still a Size 9 in Misses.

Remembering here too, that there is a SIGNIFICANT Difference with Modern Sizing today… including the fact that you’ll find out there are 4 Categories often of the same numbered size…

Misses – Ladies – Womens – Plus.  Each one a bit bigger, curvier than the other.  For example, I couldn’t fit into a Misses anymore if I tried.  I am now most certainly a Ladies or Womans Size.  And for example a Size 12 Ladies, fits me perfectly at 150 Lbs.

As other Bees have said, sizes are deceptive… and altho they are meant to measure something (they are arbitrary), they really don’t do a very good job at it IMO

Here are two great representations of that…

Hope this helps

im a huge marylin fan! ahhhhh thanks for posting this. but she was pretty much every size known to man. she started out pretty thin. let’s not forget that. in “how to marry a millionare” she’s def like a size 0 or 2 (ive posted a pic), but in some like it hot she was def like a size 8 or 10 (ballparking here). i also think she’s listed as 5’5, not 5’1 (i WISH she were 5’1! haha) i think the thing is that no matter what size she was (0 or 12, she was still beautiful!)

i also agree about vanity sizing. it goes both ways and it’s really weird. im 5’2 and about 102 lbs. in the US im like a 00 or 0. in the UK im a 6, in europe im like a 34. in designer clothing i can be a 2 or a 4 depending on how things are cut. can’t keep up with all the numbers

@goodasitgets:  true! in vintage clothes I’m a size 16… which is 10 sizes up than what I actually wear lol
