I know these days when you go on your honeymoon hotels want to see a copy of your marriage certificate to prove that you are actually on your honeymoon …They will not give you the honeymoon suite or any perks if you dont show them as there has been many people lying and scamming them. The plan is to leave the day after the wedding to go on our honey and you normally dont get your certificate back for a few weeks after the ceremony. Can you get someone to take a copy of it that day so you can take it with you? I know the bride can’t legally chage her name on her passport as your airline tickets will be booked under your maiden name and you need time to go and change your last name with the passport office and get a new one… Please clairfy bees…

We did this for ours. We just had our officiant sign our marriage license then the next day at our day after brunch we made a copy at his house. Or you can get your marriage license then make a copy beforehand and just have your officiant sign both and keep the real one.

In ontario there was a little certificate that we got on the wedding day it wasn’t the official certificate but it was good enough for the honeymoon.
Check with your officiant but this will probably be the same for you.

@Anxiouspeanut: we couldnt. Our officiant mailed it back to the courthouse after our wedding and then we got it in the mail a few weeks later

@FMM: I wonder if they do that in all of Canada? I will definetly look into that. I will mention it to the officiant before hand to make sure…

@PitBulLover: You just need to copy for your honeymoon anyways…

So I just got married in BC and we wanted something for Mexico to prove we were married. You can actually just ask your officiant for an “unofficial” marriage certificate. Our marriage commissioner gave us one that she signed and it’s on official government of BC letter head. No one had a problem accepting this even though it wasn’t our real certificate.

@DesireeAnne: Yeah I would get a copy because most places wont even give you the honeymoon suite and if you have it you get a bunch of perks…
