At least in California; as soon as we got our license we could wed. Not sure what state you’re dealing with.

Can you call the office…I’m not much help…but that’s what I plan to do since we’re also getting married out of state.  I read all the online stuff but I didn’t really get it.

I could file for an out of state license. It’s more paperwork but maybe that’s an option for you? I would just not want to wait until the day before the wedding…

I looked up the online law in Cook County and that’s how I read it. Get it one day, sleep on it, go for it (up to 60 days). Just be VERY sure you have all required papers, ID forms, proper payment forms, etc. Definitely worth a call to the county clerk in the place you’ll be married, just to be 100% sure.

YOu should be fine getting it Friday but I wouldn’t leave it to the day before just in case you run into any unforseen troubles.

We lived in Arizona and got married in Indiana.  I triple checked that I had all of the paperwork with me, and it was really no fuss.  We picked it up Friday, and got married Saturday.  Illinois is probably similar, but yes, just call to be sure!

These things vary from state to state. In my state, it was good for 3 months but we were only there 5 months or 1 week before the wedding. We went the Monday before to be sure we had a few days in case something unexpected happened. Is it possible that you will be visiting before your wedding and could pick it up a few weeks in advance? If not, maybe calling will ease your worries and write down the name of the person oyu speak to for future reference. We stopped in 5 months in advance while in town and got all questions answered and came out with the name of the person to talk with should be have any problems but everythign went smoothly.

Call the state directly, tell them your situation, and ask them what to do.  That’s the only way to get accurate information, since every state (and sometimes county) is different.

We live in VA, but are getting married in DC (less than a mile away, but so much more paperwork). Our priest told us to get the license far in advance. The days before the wedding are so crazy that it is best to get something so important out of the way in advance. I think we will get ours in April or May for a July wedding.
