Yes, the ceremony. Your officiant will sign it showing the date it was performed as well.

How long does it take to go on Record? Or how soon can I request a copy?

@CupCakeMeg: How long depends on many factors. If you want it done right away, do what I did. Have the officiant sign it and you take it yourself to the clerk of courts and you’ll have your marriage certificate then. Every state is different regarding when they have to be sent back and processing time.

I can’t say how long it will take to get your marriage certificate back where you live.  I was married on a Monday evening in a neighboring county, and I assume the officiant mailed the signed license to my county the next day. By Friday of the same week, they had mailed me 2 copies of my certificate.
