This may be a completely stupid question, and I’ve looked online for the answer, but can’t find anything.
When/where do you get the marriage certificates? The ones you fill out on the day with the officiant? Do they give them to you when you go get the marriage license?
And for those of you who had friends be the officiant and were ordained online, did you have to have the officiant go with you to turn in the marriage license to show that he/she was ordained?
I know our state legally recognizes online ordained marriages, so I’m not worried about that, but I’m just not sure how this whole license certificate thing works.
I’ve never done it before 😛

Our minister did not go with us he just signed, he was ordained online
you sign your license they give you then you send it. (at least that is how it works in kansas) I am sure when you go to get your license they will give you instructions

Um, I’m sure it differs from state to state, but we just went last week to get our marriage license. Our officiant has requested she must have this in her hand the night of the rehearsal. She will fill it out and she is legally responsible to get it back to the courthouse. We were told that about a week or so (I think) after they have received the license, we can stop in and pick up our certificate for $5 each. Our officiant also told us we should get more than one copy of the certificate.
I wasn’t really sure how the whole process worked, but our officiant was really helpful and explained it all. And when we went in to get the license, they told us the exact same thing.

When we went to the court house to fill our the License they gave us everything we needed. A paper the officiant had to read, the certificate he had to mail in & the certificate we got to keep!
The paper told our officiant he had 5 days to mail the certificate back to the court house. He didn’t have to go with us at all. Just mailed it back to them after our wedding. Make sure your officiant knows when to mail it back in, there should be a deadline!

You should google the requirements because each state is different.
For my state you had 30-60 days to use the license. We went to the courthouse in the county that I got married in to pick up the certificate and license. The minister then turns it back in after the ceremony as in our state he had 5 days to get it back to the county in.
