- Wedding: February 2013
This is my first post and I apologize in advance for the potential frustration that it might make y’all feel. I’ve been wanting to talk about my wedding band fiasco on here for awhile now, but decided to just wait it out to actually have a timeline of events. Sorry for how long this post might be. I tried my best to edit it down!
A little backgrounder: I’ve been married 2 months to my wonderful husband and we ordered my ring in the beginning of December 2012 from the same jeweler he got my ring from. We were told that it should be in right on time for our February 23, 2013 wedding.
Fast forward to the first week of February. We call the jeweler and he tell us that “the ring should be in any day now”. We don’t hear from him until we call him again a week before our wedding to follow up. He says that it is on it’s way and that he’ll drop it off. It arrives the Thursday before our wedding and IT IS NOT THE SAME RING WE ORDERED. The jeweler knew that it wasn’t the same ring so he said that he would re-order the original ring and I could use the wrong ring as a loaner to use for our wedding. Here’s a picture of the loaner:
and of the original wedding band we ordered:
The jeweler told me that my original wedding band will be in when I get back from my honeymoon in a week. This puts us at the first week of March already. We call him to follow up on it since he said it should be in when we get back from our honeymoon, right? One of the other people at the jewelry store picks up and tell us that the jeweler we’ve been working with is in Hong Kong to take care of business since he also happens to be the owner of the jewelry store. This sales associate had no idea what the status was on my ring.
Week 3: We called again a week later since that was when they told us to call back. The jeweler/owner tells us that my ring just arrived in California from Hong Kong and that he would need to send them my engagement ring so they could set the wedding band properly because of my basket setting. I did not feel too good about that. Even with his “1.50 carat loaner” offer.
Week 4: We take a trip out to the jewelery store (which is a good 40 minutes away from where we live) to personally “re-order” the ring since my husband and I figured that the jeweler/owner probably lost the item number and that he’s just been covering his be-hind. We get there and WE DON’T SEE THE RING ANYWHERE. Why? We figured it was because he sold it in between us placing our order in December and him losing the item number and never placing the order with his Hong Kong office. The jeweler doesn’t tell us the reason for the ring not being in the store, though, we just assumed that that’s what happened.
He then tells us that we could either send the ring to California and have a band custom made and get it in 1 week (he didn’t tell me the the week prior. Just that he needed to send my ring out to CA to set the wedding band right). OR, we could place the order AGAIN using my engagement ring product number (which he had in store anyway) to match with the band number and that would take 2 weeks. We opt for the 2 week, non-customized option because we were just uncomfortable with the idea of sending out my e-ring.
Week 6: We give the jeweler a call to get the status, and he tells us that the ring should be “arriving any day now”. We called again a few days later and get the same response.
Week 7: We call the store and they tell us that the jeweler/owner is in Las Vegas.
Week 8: My husband calls the jeweler and gets told that the ring is getting shipped on Monday. My husband asks how long it will take and the jeweler tells him “10 days because they ship it via slow mail. And they 2 weeks for us to set the diamonds once it gets here.” He obviously won’t be rushing anything and that ring will constantly be a reminder of this nightmare rather than my wonderful wedding day.
We will be taking a trip to the Bad Business Jewelery Store to return my loaner and to get our money back because we’ve had it. Not once have we heard an apology from the jeweler/owner and he just does not care about this situation at all.
What do you think I should do now? Should we file a complaint? What would you have done instead? And, anyone here now of a reputable jeweler in Nashville, TN who does custom work?
If you made it this far into my story, thank you so much! I hope it didn’t stress you out as much as it did me reliving it. 🙂
